The point behind this is so blatant and so disgusting that I want to smack somebody upside the head.

In a nutshell: ABC is going to air a "docudrama" about the events leading up to September 11, 2001. This made-for misrepresents the 9/11 Commission Report, makes the Bush Administration look way more competent than they actually proved to be, and -- most tellingly, most importantly, most damningly -- falsely blames Bill Clinton for letting Osama bin Laden get away.

So, y'see, Chimpy is really a big fuckin' hero. It's all Clinton.

I almost want to bypass the unspeakable hypocrisy, the blatant attempt at creating political cover out of whole cloth, the reeking desperation of their trying to rewrite reality so their incompetent moron of a front man looks like something other than an incompetent moron, and just laugh at the pathological hatred of a man six years out of office.

If you have friends or family members who hear about this, tell them: It's a pack of lies. It's wrong, top to bottom, trying to throw the blame on Bill Clinton for things that happened on Bush's watch, things that Clinton tried to warn them about, things they wouldn't listen to because he was Bill Clinton.

I swear to Cthulhu, if these shitheads spent a tenth of the time they spend propagandizing in actual governing instead, things would be much better.

Update: Rep. Louise Slaughter weighs in.

They *have* to blame everything on Clinton. Their previous stragety (blame everything on Carter) was really starting to wear thin.

I ran into some guys once who seriously blamed Enron on Clinton's affair, saying it lowered the morals of the country so much that the execs could pull off what they did.

Even worse: ABC is working with Scholastic to develop and publish HIGH SCHOOL LESSON PLANS based on this movie. Can we say "goodfacts," boys and girls? I thought we could...

If you look down at what is currently the bottom of the comments (comment #134), you'll see the letter that I wrote to WTAE, the ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh. I encourage everyone to write a similar letter to your local ABC affiliates.

Oh gods no. Not the way they do it. Uh, guys, you carry right on propagandising...while we just move someone else in here...:)

I'm guessing the reason I can't get at the site is because lots of other people are doing likewise. Hopefully to scream in disgust.

It's only more of the same, though. It's been going on since you won the war for us. Reality is silly putty and it's not true till you see it on teevee. Or to put it another way, they're just collapsing those old quantum waveforms...

Yeah. Digby's been going on about this for days, now. Astonishing, how copies of the show found their way into the hands of reviewers who wrote for right-wing blogs, but not a single copy was screened by lefties, despite repeated and polite requests.

Good thing I planned to give it a miss, anyway.

Oh, believe me, words don't do this justice.

You just have to see it with your own eyes.

... Okay, that was beyond stupid. Insulting, racist, and ultimately pointless.

Never tell me anything WWE-related again, please. I just don't care.

This link goes to ABC's contact page, where you can opt to send feedback to them regarding anything. there is a sib-category for ABC Movies and ABC Specials. You only get a limited space to type in, but there is a word count.

My comment?

I was not aware that ABC had fallen to blatant political manipulation, but after hearing about some of the false and misleading scenes in your upcoming movie (The Path) I felt the need to let you know that I was saddened by your choice to try and play politics with America's hearts and minds. I will no longer be viewing your station, or showing support in any way. This issue is still a very live and hot issue, and presenting anything other than the truth will just lead to muddy waters.
I am not above boycotting.

I also advise contacting your local ABC affiliate and advise them that you expect disclaimers, or you'll have to boycott local advertisers.

Frankly, I'm not at all surprised. I expected something--I mean, after all, for the first time in about a year, gas prices are easing (gee, what convenient timing) and now there's this slanderous hatchet job.

This leaves me with just one station in town that hasn't taken sides. WCMH-4 (NBC) decided not to sell time to moveon.org for an ad critical of Deb Pryce. WSYX-6 ABC (paired with WTTE-28 Faux which is where I expected slop like this to go) will, so far as I know, air the lies. That leaves WBNS-10... which is owned by the Distort... er, Dispatch.

We're effin' hosed down here.

Got a response from Pittsburgh's ABC Station

I received this letter from the "Creative Services Coordinator" at WTAE this morning. At least I know they read my letter, although I'm even more disturbed by the fact that it is "required programming."

Thanks for your feedback. "The Path of 9/11" is ABC Programming which we are required to carry. Here is a statement issued by ABC regarding the show.

Thanks again for taking the time to write.

Statement from an ABC Spokesperson

The Path to 9/11 is a dramatization, not a documentary, drawn from a variety of sources, including the 9/11 commission report, other published materials and from personal interviews. The events that lead to 9/11 originally sparked great debate, so it’s not surprising that a movie surrounding those events has revived the debate. The attacks were a pivotal moment in our history that should never be forgotten and it’s fitting that the discussion continues.

The following disclaimer will air throughout the movie:

“The following movie is a dramatization that is drawn from a variety of sources including the 9/11 Commission Report and other published materials, and from personal interviews. The movie is not a documentary. For dramatic and narrative purposes, the movie contains fictionalized scenes, composite and representative characters and dialogue, as well as time compression."
