Big honkin' blizzard hitting the East Coast. Up to two feet expected in DC. Already 5" of snow in the mountains of western North Carolina. Lots of freezing rain out there.

Thither go I.

Why? Obligation. Honor. It's a very nice, very fun little con. And, I'm being paid.

I spoke with Lindsay of the con this morning, and so far the con isn't cancelled. My initial plan stands: If I can freakin' get there, it's no trouble getting to the con from the hotel, and I can hunker down until everything clears out.

It would be great to see some of you there, but don't risk your life, mmkay?

What's your weekend looking like?

Dude, drive safely. It looks awful and I hope you can avoid the worst of it. Let us know when you get there.

I got Star Trek Online on Tuesday so I'm going to be playing that for a while. So far it's fun except I HATE the F-ING starship controls. If I could fix the camera to be behind my ship (the USS Hope Ayrie), life would be better.

Some people are having problems with the http://www.duckon.org website links. I haven't been able to duplicate the problems so I have to investigate that. (If anyone wants to go there and click around, please do. If you find any bad links anywhere, please tell me.) No plans for Superbowl. I may use it as an excuse to get a pizza.

Test proctoring, dinner with friends, and watching my Colts win the Super Bowl are on the agenda for this weekend.

You be safe, okay?

Be sure to triple-check your travel route. Already 6 airlines have canceled their flights into the storm region & Amtrak is doing the same.
Be safe and have fun.

but the kid has bronchitis, and the doctor says to see an allergist. I may be home all the time because Fred has a bunch of fun religious stuff going on.

I WILL at least go to the library.

Eagle Court of Honor for Filkerdave's son. Laundry and a computer rebuild (Windows 7 upgrade from Vista) for my uncle's boss. I really hope the court of honor happens and is not postponed.

Travel safely!

Bat mitzvahs for everyone! Or at least for my rabbi's daughter tomorrow and for my niece Sunday. Snow in the forecast, but not a lot (at the moment). Which is good since we have to get to NJ for the Sunday event.

There's also that football game Sunday. I love pro football, but the Super Bowl is so overhyped that by the time it arrives, I don;t have much interest in it. And I don't even care about the ads anymore.

Cinci may or may not get any snow/ice. I say it's a rumor until it gets here ;)

As luck may have it I actually have things to do both weekend days this week (and none of them involve the superbowl, unless avoiding it counts). Leatherworking Saturday morning, get together Saturday evening and con meeting Sunday afternoon. Unless the above mentioned rumor materializes and driving gets stupid.
Oh and hanging another suet cake on kitty tv.

Edit to note the forecast that made me laugh so much I nearly cried:

This forecast remains very changeable with temperatures too close to freezing to be very confident but here's what it's looking like...
For once they are admitting that really, they have no idea what's going to happen.

I live dead center in the path of what's coming. My weekend looks like Sunday's D&D session is canceled because the DM will be shoveling two feet worth of snow (or unicorn poop as we're calling it in these parts. It's pretty. It's magical. and the neighbors get pissed if they have to walk through a pile of it on the sidewalk.)

We're probably not going to get weather here, and if we do, well, it's February in the Southwestern Ontario microclimate; who's gonna notice? *grin*

Me, I plan to do a lot of sleeping and perhaps some exercising and choring, and I may go look at a cat a friend recommended. I'm not feeling particularly ambitious because it's been bad news all round for me -- I had to put down my old cat a week ago Tuesday, a friend's cat got outside and probably froze to death last Monday, and my SO got back from his doctor's appointment yesterday with a tentative diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma, and a referral to a dermatologist. Gack.

Hoping everyone else's year has been better than that; I'm looking for a rewrite, myself.

Glad to hear you're going to trek out to the little con even though the forecasters say a blizzard will go with you.
I helped run a little con in rural Maine years ago, and it was hard to get performers and such to come even in good weather. Then, in our third year, when we were really on a roll, there was a huge storm -- two to three feet of snow, the morning of the con's first day.
I was so sure that we were screwed, but out of the blizzard came all the people from Boston who had promised to come, and the show went on. It was amazing.

Everything between Richmond and NYC has been cancelled, thanks to <echo level=lots> SON... OF... SNOWPOCALYPSE!!! </echo>

So I'm staying home, and we'll be out with the shovels on Sunday. Weird weather note: this will be the second major snowstorm of the winter for us. The last time the DC FedroSplat had two major snowstorms in the same winter was in the *19th* century (1899).

Since we live in the DC area, our weekend will largely consist of watching TiVo'd shows and DVDs. Also the Super Bowl. (GO SAINTS!) And lots and lots of shoveling.

What's your weekend looking like?

White. Very, very white. As my neighbor [livejournal.com profile] dr_zrfq points out, the outside world has been officially canceled. Weekly Friday & biweekly Saturday gaming are *so* not happening.

[livejournal.com profile] stevemb & I should be fine, though. Plenty of food, drink, books & DVDs, & 2 snuggly cats. Plus several kinds of tea & hot chocolate for post-shoveling warmup.

Much better that it happen this weekend than next when we'll be trying to get to Boskone. However, they're already calling for *more* snow on Tuesday.

ETA: the local forecast has been updated to 24" MINIMUM.

Doctor's appointment today -- I'm not feeling well at the moment. And I will still probably have to VPN into work at some point to work on a demo I'm supposed to be giving on Monday. I'm so excited.

Weekend looks to be quiet. We don't have any "interesting" weather coming our way. I sure wish we'd get some snow in the mountains, though, or the Emerald City is going to look like the Hemp Fiber Doormat City come about July.

What's your weekend looking like?

Staying the heck HOME.

Probably cleaning, tax prep stuff and/or some video games.

Sunday, if we're not too snowed in, we're going to head over to Rob's parents' house to watch the Caps/Penguins game and then that football game everyone's making a big deal about. ;-)

You be careful driving out there, Tom. With very few exceptions, people in North Carolina and thereabouts REALLY have no clue how to drive anything resembling safely in snow...

(Please let us know when you get in safely, so I don't worry my fool head off.)

You be very careful, and be certain to extra-pack winter supplies in the van. Too many people die in blizzards because they didn't have sense enough to pack a blanket in their cars, just in case.

Weather forecast is for the area to get 30 inches of snow in the next 24 hours, doubling the amount of snow they have received this winter so far. Are you *sure* that you have to go?? Or more importantly, can get there safely??

We're going to have snow as opposed to Snowpocalypse. Saturday I will attack the laundry monster. Sunday my sister's family is supposed to come here from PA to celebrate my niece's and my mother's birthdays, if they don't get snowed in. Either way I'll watch the Super Bowl and cheer for the Saints.
