What The Hell?! Con, Part 2
Feb. 9th, 2010 07:25 pmI didn't actually get to the con till almost 2:00 on Saturday. The Seattle trip threw my already-ludicrous sleep "schedule" for a loop. I set up a table in one of the two guest/artist areas (more on them later in the week), and hung out for awhile, at which point I was reminded that there was a Meet The Guests panel in the other building. I had completely forgotten this.
For a few minutes, it seemed the guests would outnumber the audience, but we did all right. It ended up being mostly about the webcomics business, with some interesting stories and good advice and great personalities. One artist in particular, Alan Welch, said he had a piece of art I should see, inspired by one of my songs.
No. I'll tell you later. ;)
I went back and hung around at my table again, talking with lots of lovely folks. I ended up sending Minion Jerry to get me some Thai food, as I really didn't feel up to going to the guest dinner (which I would've had to leave before it was done, to come back and get ready for my 8:00 set). Nice tom ka gai and chicken pad thai. Did I mention that the con kept me in Pepsi Throwback all weekend?
The 1-1/2 hour Saturday set went pretty well, I thought, with a lively crowd of a hundred or so. Very much fun. After hanging out for a bit, I left (the Geek Auction was in full swing, and I was exhausted).
Sunday, I was again late getting there. But I hung out for a couple of hours with some of the very nice artists, we bought each other's merch, it was fun. I have links to give to you, but all that stuff is in a bag I haven't yet brought in from the van, so I'll have 'em in a day or two. In fact, let's make Thursday Pimp Stuff Day. I'll put up a thread, I should have new concert audio, you guys can hype goodies, all good.
And, of course, the last part of the trip was leaving at about 10:00 Monday morning, and managing to get all the way home by about 9:00 Monday night. Which, given the weather this morning, was an incredibly good thing. I would've been a wreck, or in a wreck, if I'd had to deal with that stuff on the freeway for any length of time.
So, many, many thanks to the incredible What The Hell?! Con team -- Lindsay, Tess, Nathan, Amber, Jerry, the other Lindsay, James the sound guy, ever-damn-body else. For the second year in a row, you have shown me a marvelous time, and I love you for it.
Sigh. Onward to other cons. MillenniCon has officially asked me to return as their GOH next year, and I've officially accepted. I'm getting feelers from LibertyCon, where I had one hell of a great time last year. Robby at Dragon*Con is watching out for me. A number of people really want me to come to Raleigh for NASFiC, and I've gotta clear things up one way or the other with GenCon because of that. And, I might be going to a GLBT activism event in Iowa -- more later.
