So, are you celebrating by:
  • Swapping roles with your spouse, employer or employee?
  • Actually boxing with someone?
  • Going to see Rocky Balboa?
  • Bagging it instead?
  • Taking all those boxes from yesterday out to the trash?
  • Clicky click?

Working....sigh.

Still, having a job where you LIKE what you do beats having a job where you HATE what you do, but have more time off.

Actually, I celebrate the day as Babbage's Birthday, and have also discovered (via Wikipedia) that it's St. Stephen's Day.

I'm going to stay home, help clean up the house after a weekend of partying, and work on my hopefully-soon-to-be-released first CD.

We gave my assistant, Jedi Greg, the day off in order that he continue working on the Star Wars float for the Rose Parade. He didn't managed to get into the parade itself but this seems to be the next best thing. He's having a blast!

I am celebrating by going shopping for coveralls and maybe a couple of wrenches. But I'll be imagining that I'm boxing Maury Povich.

And then there are those of us who like what we do, but hate where we're doing it and have to work today anyway.

Which reminded me of this, one of my favorite exchanges from Kentucky Fried Movie:
Loo: And who are they?
Dr. Klahn: Refuse, found in waterfront bars.
Loo: Shanghaied?
Dr. Klahn: Just lost drunken men who don't know where they are and no longer care.
Prisoner #1: Where are we?
Prisoner #2: I don't care!
Loo: And these?
Dr. Klahn: These are lost drunken men who don't know where they are, but do care. And these are men who know where they are and care, but don't drink.
Prisoner #3: Where am I? I don't know where I am!
Prisoner #4: Yeah! And I don't drink!
Dr. Klahn: Guards! (move prisoners) Do you care?
Prisoner #5: No.
Dr. Klahn: Put this man in cell #1, and give him a drink!
Guard: What do you drink?
Prisoner #5: I don't care.

Actually have the day off, but have been spending it by cleaning house, doing dishes, putting away laundry, taking out trash...but then going out for Boxing Day lunch with a friend, then to a one-day-delayed XMas party...then tomorrow I go back to work. Meh.

I'm spending it boxing up the leftovers from yesterday's grand feast. The boxes will then be given to the house servants to take to their families, providing the best meal they may have all year.

(This is only one of several explanations for the day's name. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing_day)

We're sleeping in, recovering from relatives' various eccentricities, playing with our new toys, & maybe going for a lazy non-turkey lunch here in a bit. :-)

Filling cardboard cubes with materials from our lives to transport across town to the new abode.

But to celebrate, I have been habitually CRUSHING other cardboard cubes, empty ones, not suitable for the above work, with my feet. I go through phases of this from time to time.

I call it "Kick Boxing."

I've got the day-job; Fred normally does child care. I'm holding down the home today while Fred does what needs done about his hospitalized brother. Pray. Pray long, pray loud, pray without ceasing. We need all we can get.

I'm working, yay - unloading a carrier full of explosives and imagining like hell one vicious big KABOOM.

Today, achy large muscle groups, tomorrow, bitchy post-Giftmas clients just as batshit crazy as two days ago. Proceeding to get drunk in the evening may be inevitable.

We had an open house all day starting at 11 a.m. We had friends here for Brunch then they left and we had friend show up around tea time and stayed until 5 ish. We had our last wave of folks join us for dinner. We played games all day and ate at will. It was nice. One of the things I asked of our guests is to bring some canned goods for the local food pantry which I will "box" up and take there this week.

It was nice. Hope yours was relaxing and enjoyable.

As it turned out -- dozing until noon, eating the last of the nut bread for breakfast, and falling asleep on the couch.

Sloth Day!
