Terrible, terrible sadness. One of the greatest voices of the people, Molly Ivins, has passed away, succumbing to breast cancer at the age of 62. Oh, we will miss you, Molly. Wherever you are, say hi to Ann Richards for us, huh?

Wow. Stunned about covers my reaction at reading that.

Flinging my glass into the fireplace. **CRASH**

Somewhere, Molly and Ann are sharing a drink and laughing...

WildCard9 walks up to the bar, places a dollar down and gets a glass of diet 7-up from Mike Callahan, goes over to the chalk line, has a moment of silence, and flings his drink into the fireplace behind selenesue's

Time to crack out the bourbon and drink a toast.

Amita, ave atque vale.

I've tried to think of my favorite line of hers, but I can't narrow it down.

Great Sadness.

A rare person who could make one laugh and think at the same time.

The politics won't be the same without her.

Total shock

I couldn't believe it. I read her columns whenever I saw them on cnn.com or Chicago Tribune and had no clue. She rarely talked about her personal life though. She was definitely one of the smartest people I've read. I've loved how she checked the facts (something Faux news has no interest in doing) and could back up everything she said. I wondered why her columns were so infrequent lately. It was a treat to see them every Thursday. No doubt a few people will rejoice at this news, but those are the people who favor pretty lies over hard truth.

I was shocked & grieved when I heard the news on NPR. Molly, we need your voice--may there be a successor out there somewhere!

I'm so sorry about Molly Ivins. This morning I was listening to Stephanie Miller, who noted that Molly had gone home to have hospice care. Molly Ivins was a great woman with a brilliant mind. She will be missed.

Crap. I had a feeling when I was reading about her being hospitalized last week that it wasn't going to be good.

Damn, damn, damn. =(

Well, it explains her lack of activity. Damn. That is one columist I am going to miss. She was always a breath of fresh air in contrast to that smarmy neo-con Tyrrell. I didn't always agree with her, but she never talked down to the readership.

Barukh Dayan Emet Blessed Be The True Judge

Molly Ivins completely won me over when she so accurately desrcibed either Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson as a Shi'ite Baptist.

That was years ago.

Today, I would say the more accurate appellation is Wahabi Baptist....
