So, here I am. At my dad's.

Doing tech support.

The other computer. The one with 192 MB RAM, and a definitely Pentium chip of some type, and a four gigabyte hard drive, and the earliest possible permutation of Windows 98.

At least I saw manatees. At the State Park this morning. Way cool.

How's your evening?

Cold. And then some.

Fortunately, I've got TV to watch (Adventures of Brisco County Jr), and "Y-The Last Man" to catch up on reading (and contemplations of a review of that series).

Other than that? Glad for a warm room, and things to do.

Hope the computer troubleshooting goes well.

Where in FL?

I second this question. Simply because I'm in Florida, and am willing to be a sanity person if you're willing to meet up with a fan with child in tow (I know you don't much like kids.)

Sanity person... that sounds like an oxymoron with this bunch...

You're both sweethearts. But, please understand: I need some alone time right now. I'm going to a hotel near WDW tomorrow.

In general answer (again, I trust you understand), within twenty minutes' drive of Blue Spring State Park.

I completely understand. I've been there, and alone time is hard to come by when you have a baby. The best I can do is a shower while he naps. ;-}

For what it's worth, you're right now fairly close to me. (I think just over the county line). I've been meaning to get over to Blue Springs to see the manatees.

If you get into the parks while you're down here, the actor playing Jack Sparrow at Magic Kingdom is really quite good. He's over by Pirates (naturally).

Putting off straightening up a bit before the appraiser comes over in the morning, we're going to buy the house we're renting.

Six weeks before our wedding.

Apparently, I'm a glutton for punishment.

This is a recovery evening ... I'm going to fold towels ... watch my drug on TV ... and then cut a live show into tracks ... to see if I can use it

Hopefully you have a Win98SE CD handy to upgrade him to the better version of Win98. I never had problems with my old PC of those stats running Win98SE. Heck, he has a bigger HD and more memory than my original Win98 PC had.

Pick the roomie up from class, come home, putter...pretty much nothing, which is good, because I don't have the energy right now to do anything other than breathe...yeah, one of *those* days. Meh.

But hey, the Colts won the Super Bowl, so that keeps a twinkle in my eye.

Excellent.

I finally managed to get control of my story again. I discovered a theme I was missing and found the proper voice to tell the tale. I'm blazing away on this story.

Oh, those?

You can see those everyday at http://www.hornymanatee.com/ ...

You can thank me later, after you're done with the eye bleach.

Got through probably the worst day of the Hollywood Awards Silly Season today, doing my final write-ups on Grammy Night. Same night as the Writers Guild awards [simul-party, NY/LA] and the ASIFA Annie awards for Animation. Who thought all of those really should be on the same night? Oh well, I don't have to multilocate and cover them all at least.

Home, packing for Estrella. Waterproofing my boots.

I only had to spend 20 minutes shoveling before I could get into the garage, and we're not predicted to get any significant wind, so as meaningful snowfalls go it wasn't too bad. Of course I had to spend 10 minutes before I started driving home finding the car under the snow. Maybe if I buy a snow brush it will keep this from happening again.

Yeah, it's pretty, and peaceful, and all that. I hate snow.

the same old humdrum at the moment, and trying to stay warm doing it. these temperatures are way to cold for this Florida boy! luckily the tornadoes missed my neck of the woods (barely), though i wish they hadn't hit at all. (touch of survivors guilt) if you need any assistance finding your way around Florida, let me know - there is very little of Florida i don't know about! if it is there to be found, i've probably at least read up on it if i haven't already been there.

I spent it waiting nervously for my dad to get home. Apparently there was a massive pile up of cars on the interstate, and what should have been a 20 minute-one hour drive took him almost four hours. Snow does bad things to this town.

Chugging through the page proofs of Accountability Frankenstein. On the nasty, detail-filled part of the references. Then it goes back to the printer. Next round (second proofs) should be much cleaner.

Empathising, and getting ready for German class.

My parents were in the same boat- I was/am their primary tech support. When their Win98 machine "died" (it needed a new logic board battery. That's all.), they talked to a "friend" who wanted $3k to *build them a "modern" system*. I had them give me less than a third of that, and put them on Macintosh. MUCH fewer virus worries, and I can pull up their computer from Germany...

And of course, I now get at least one URGENT call a week because Mom closed a window...

Still better than the URGENT call once a month that they couldn't describe what was wrong.

Yep. Steve, last month I got a mailing from HP offering a new WinXP system, including monitor and printer, for $299. If I have a good spring, and that kind of deal is up around Memorial Day, I may end up getting them a new system. Or two. It would run rings around what they've got now, I'd have a better chance of helping them when there are problems, and it's way frickin' cheaper than they'd do going to a Best Buy or Circuit City.

So far, it's better. We're treating the sinus infection he's got as well, and he's doing well enough on the meds that they're thinking of sending him home tomorrow with us. We were able to visit with him this evening, and he eventually started purring, he was so happy to see us.

He's like me - hardheaded, pain tolerance of YES and loyal as anything. I love the little furry critter a whole lot.

Assuming he does well overnight, he'll come home tomorrow and be confined to a few rooms, so he won't have any opportunity to fall down the stairs while he heals. I suspect I'll be living in the bedroom with him a lot the first few days, to keep him from going nuts.

Thanks for the hugs. I'll pass 'em along when I see him next. He's a trooper.

Hug - escaping my pod at work, where I'm suppised to decorate it for the Oscars. Don't really have much chance - one supervisor has posters and statuettes. I have popcorn strings and fake movie posters, on the themes of phone service---stuff like Speed (dial), Ringing in the Rain, and Star Trek VI the un*Charter*ed country. Stuff like that. But hey, I get to pun :)
