Hey, [livejournal.com profile] billroper! I think we need to give this a try. :)

Any particular audio goodness you've got going this week? On a more serious note, the free Antress plugins are pretty cool, and they look good too.

I think it'd be worth it just to have Bea Arthur and Stephen Hawking wander by.

(actual quote from about two minutes ago: "That looks kinda like Bea Ar--OH MY GOD.")

And my audio goodness this week is listening only--Goon Show MP3s.

(grams: whoosh) Halllo! I'm the famous Eccles! Somebody call for a chimp? Oho!

(*cackle* I've got to point you to my show some Friday night. I generally run a Goons episode.)

My all-time favorite Goons exchange is:

"Put the cat out!"

"Why?"

"It's on fire!"

Well, these wonderful VST plugins do wonders in Winamp, especially the compressor/expanders. They've made all my old audiobooks and Dementia Radio sound better.

Problem is, I have nothing that makes VST work with the two main programs I use to record: Goldwave and Audacity. Goldwave's clumsy workaround crashed when I tried to put a "VST-DirectX wraparound" into play. And while Audacity "seems" to see the plugin with its workaround, it does not produce the beautiful graphic control panels that make using these plugins comprehensible.

So either I work with them blind in Audacity or wait until I can buy a commercial program that can use VST - and no, I won't pirate such a program.

You don't have to. Try Reaper (http://www.cockos.com/reaper/). Versions up to .999 are freeware; above that (current version 1.806) is uncrippled shareware.

Audio: I hope that over the next few days I finally get time to do a good evaluation of Reaper. My earlier attempts never got past stage one because of Reaper's habit of taking a type-1 MIDI file (that was output from BiaB) and dumping all the events into a single track. (Oh, look! Salad!) Not good for the way I like to do things. As of 1.804 it puts individual channels onto their own tracks...yipee.
