[livejournal.com profile] timemachineyeah made a Henson tribute video using "A Boy And His Frog". And Eric Gerds fronted it at the newly redesigned Filk.com.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sarekofvulcan for the heads-up.

That's always been one of my favorite songs of yours, and one I frequently unleash on unsuspecting new listeners. It's the only song I know that's guaranteed to make me cry every time I hear it. Hell, I tear up telling people about it.

Well done indeed.

If you and I are ever at a con together again, promise me there will be lots and LOTS of tissue on-hand if you sing this.

There's never enough tissue on hand for this song...

Bring your own. Bring lots, so you can share with the unsuspecting.

Such a great song...

Is that your song? I have loved that song from the first time I heard it. It was even mentioned in the online comic Something Positive.

That was my first standing ovation. Three days after Mr. Henson passed away, I wrote it at MarCon 1990, on the big staircase down to the food court. Debuted it a few hours later. I still don't know how I made it through that set, let alone the song; I knew the song was at the end of it.

I was there when you sang it the first time - it made me cry then, and did again tonight. To take all the shock and horrified grief, and make of it something so beautiful, is an amazing gift. Thank you, Tom.

That's one of my favorite songs of yours. I too can't get through it without crying. Generally I lose it when your voice cracks at "I'll miss you dad." Gone. Everytime.

You're welcome. :-) I came across it while looking for videos to match pictures and lyrics in "Sesame Street Unpaved" for Erin: she grew up on Nick Jr., rather than PBS. :-( It was somewhere between "Ladybugs' Picnic" and "Martian Cutie", if I remember correctly... :-)

I just listened as [livejournal.com profile] solarbird played the video; it was the first time I'd listened to the song in some years.

And I teared right up. That song still has the power to move me. Thank you, Tom.

Dangit... I'd just started being able to listen to this song without tears welling up. Now I have it stuck in my head, and it's taking all of my will to hold the tears in.

You did a wonderful, powerful thing when you wrote that song, Tom. It's a true honor toward his memory.

Now if you excuse me, I'm going to cuddle up with my Muppet Show DVDs and my plushie of Red and have a little cry.

...

Again!

(I just love this song, but I can hardly stand listening to it. To this day, Jim Henson is the only celebrity that I cried over his death)

I've sent that link to the folks at the Henson Boyhood Museum in his hometown of Leland MS.

I stopped in there and played the song for them shortly after I got the "Digital Acoustic Compilation" CD. It's right on the way to/from my in-laws place.

You know I love you honey, but it's a bit hard for our office to answer phones bright and cheery in the morning when the front desk is overflowing with waterworks. You have a gift, and it shines like the sun through the rain in this song.

We're still sniffling at the front desk and the video finished ten minutes ago.
Dammit Tom.

I can't watch this. I can't cry at work. I haven't even started watching it yet and I'm sniffling.

You're in good company, Tom - the one other song that's guaranteed to get the tears going is Beethoven's Ode to Joy.

Heh. I cry when I listen to Rainbow Connection too...But in a good way. Thank you, Tom. The day that Jim Henson died is still burned into my memory. I remember seeing the newspaper in the screen door, with a big picture of Jim Henson on the front. I thought, "Oh cool, there's an article about Jim Henson!" and then I flipped it over and saw the headline, "Muppets creator Jim Henson dead at 53". I felt like I was gut-punched. I just sat down in front of the TV and couldn't grasp it. All night, family and friends were calling me, asking how I was doing. They all knew how much I loved him and his work. God, I can barely keep from crying right now, the pain is still too real. God bless you, Jim, and we miss you. I hope you're making God and the angels laugh right now.

oh man, I just went through half a box of tissues watching this.

I *always* cry when I hear this song which is why it is NOT on my iPod.

way back when Trek stars used to be on the late night talk shows, I had taped Patrick Stewart and then stopped the tape as they announced their next guest was Jim Henson. Man, I wish I had kept the tape going!!!

A most excellent video to an awesome song!!

Thanks Tom for writing it so quickly to fill that void in our hearts!

Bring tears just as fast as your fun songs bring belly laughs

Garboo, A Boy and his Frog, and For Us All

for me, Its a Trifecta of tears.
But in a way that honours not just the people in the songs, but the songwriter as well.

And I thank you for gifting us with these treasures
