I have just sent out the audition MP3 for a commission I've been working on for months. Hardest arrangement job I've ever done. But I finally got it where I wanted it, and I think it sounds really good, and I hope the client thinks the same.

One down, six to go. Really. I seem to have graduated to a better class of problems: I've got more commission work than I can easily do. So I'm gonna be doin' my best over the next few weeks to get everything off my plate, ideally by PenguiCon.

I hope to have an iTom song later tonight or tomorrow, but I've got to finish writing it first. Same with a FuMP song for next week.

Whew.

Oh let's see, I opened up my mouth and volunteered to perform that Belly Dance song to the tune of Safety Dance that popped up on the Filk topic a couple of days ago. Most probably at the Bawdy Bardic concert at the "Potrero War" SCA weekend, east of San Diego, Memorial Day weekend. I was already booked as a backstage worker/relief sound board person so I'm already committed -- or should be!

Also, this crossed my desk a few minutes ago. I think I would be pleased as punch if one of the FuMPers won it and I was the one who told them about it... [www.internetsongoftheyear.com]

Careful on that one - they require 9.95 to "register" (I haven't been able to track down if that's per song or total) and on a quick peruse I saw one person (phil) has uploaded (misnamed) BNL and a Harry Chapin songs despite the rules of all original only. Not sayin' it's not valid, just smells a bit fishy.

Struggling with tuning a 25-year-old hammered dulcimer that might well be defective and untunable, while working up a couple of tunes on it; still insufferably pleased with myself for collaborating with [livejournal.com profile] catsittingstill and our carpool-mates on a song that won the harmony songwriting contest at FKO; and trying to get another song entered into Melody assistant.

That reminds me - I still have to get a piece of corian (or similar) and cut/carve/hack it into shape to replace the one missing piece in my hammered dulcimer.

Then I can attmept to tune it.

I've got two potential students coming in - waiting for their schedules to fall into place so that I can then fit them in my schedule.

I'm not practicing a classical guitar arrangement of Pachabel's Canon enough to make much progress, but those first 12 bars are slowly sinking in.

I am, however, making progress on learning Michael Hedges songs and techniques. I haven't played around with alternate tunings all that much, so that aspect is proving the most challenging for me - especially when I shift into improv mode.

It goes well. After the big move I've been lucky to find a new group and have already done two performances:

Am still kicking around the idea for carving up my own shawm or clarinet on the lathe and have been researching that.

week in music....

Hmm.. The best way to describe it is "interesting".

I-CON was lousy for open filk recording... (Nothing Friday, started at 2am on Sat nights and I called it a night at 3 due to wanting to record a sunday concert at 1pm.) You would have though everyone who attends filk was at FKO. (They likely were.) The concerts on the other hand were decent.

Recorded 5 hours of concerts including the 2 hour fump concert. (Didn't make the cabaret, but am working on geting a copy for the fump performers).

The one really INTERESTING thing in music this week for me was that the recording of the FuMP concert I made, ended up on Sudden Death's Manic Monday's podcast. He used 3 songs from that concert.

That was a fun surprise when a friend told me about it.

Other than that, got something around 4-6 filk CDs (and one DVD). Including one that really has good lyrics (audio quality is questionable for the one song I heard.).

That's why I took up knitting -- it can be done after children are in bed or on public transit without disturbing anyone. (Actually, the other week I shared a streetcar with someone practicing his electric guitar, but my instruments are all acoustic.)

Finished production of two projects recently: (a) [livejournal.com profile] jcw_da_dmg's solo CD (see above for details), and (b) a mixdown project for a Christian Contemporary group in downstate Illinois - that one's just been mastered and is ready for duplication.

Samples of those tracks can be found on this page (http://www.ravenslake-music.com/gpage2.html).

I'm currently recording some of my own material, as well as looking for clients to produce (either to record in my studio or in other studios, depending on the situation).

Having made it through my first ever (mini-)concert without any terrible trauma, I can now stop practicing those same &%$@%$&^ four songs over and over and start thinking about something new. :-)
