New music software, new music, a possible cure for diabetes... what could possibly screw up a day like this? Oh, right, Republican bullshit. This isn't even the third or fourth most egregious example this morning... but something about it typifies everything about conservative "government" these days.

Hunt Votes Where the Votes Are

The people who didn't like Bush took their vote where THEY had a majority. The people who did like Bush took their vote where THEY had a majority. It's just that the pro-Bush people had a whole lot bigger stick than the anti-Bush people.

I think both sides are being petty. The U of F people are just trying to substitute their elitist ideas about "correct" public policy for that of officials who were elected by the people to set public policy. They admit that. On the other hand, the legislators are just trying to stick it to the U of F people in a display of power that can only be called petty and beneath the dignity of a legislative body. They admit that ... well at least that they were trying to stick it to the University.

Both sides should admit their pettiness, reverse their votes, and stop the nonsense.

Somewhere along the line the custom of waiting until a politician was dead before naming things after him or her got lost. I think that's too bad.

Thing is, the university has the right to decide not to issue an honorary degree. Happens all the time. And doing so because they don't feel the recipient is worthy is part of the right, since such degrees are supposed to be a sign that the institution in question considers the recipient *very* much better than the average person.

Voting no is just stating an opinion. It's not petty.

While the state legislature has the *power* to change the name, using that power for the reason the did (and incidentally, costing the state a *lot* of money in making all the changes) is petty.
