Oasis, MarCon, BaltiCon

Heck of a weekend for fandom. Usually I would be at MarCon in Columbus, OH, and I do hope everybody there has a great time -- lots of hugs all around. But this year I'm back down at Oasis in Orlando, FL. (Panel tomorrow at 5:00, big concert after the masquerade, 8:00ish on Saturday night.) And most of the rest of The FuMP is at BaltiCon in Baltimore, MD.

So where the heck are you? ;)

Home :). But tomorrow night I'm going to hear Heather Dale in concert in downtown Toronto and I'm spending Sunday practising and recording with Deb and Jodi, so I'll get my share of music. And I imagine John and I will have to fit "Pirates" in there somewhere, too.

I haven't made it to MW*C since Balticon -- my back-door con -- moved to this weekend. But the first year Balticon doesn't have a must-not-miss guest, I'l be back. I really miss it.

wish i had known about oasis sooner, i might have tried to go, as it is in my neck of the woods! but i am heading north to Georgia for Westville's Creek War event in Lumpkin, Ga near the Alabama border...looking for a couple of good cons to hit this summer, though...oh for the good old days, when we had Tachycon to get us through the summer!

I'll be at work, then entertaining my S-i-L, niece and nephew, taking in "Pirates 3", watching the Indy 500 (and the Coke 600 if I'm lucky) and attending a picnic with friends.

We thought about it seriously. But it's been a few busy, hot, crowded days. The cast members I spoke to couldn't believe how busy the parks are right now -- usually they really don't get hit this badly until Friday.

Stuck in NY this weekend... (I was in the Orlando area 2 weeks ago for a vacation after a friend graduated from UCF.)

My next convention is Conterpoint in Md in a few weeks.

I did tell them to try to get to OASIS and see your concert.

Riverfest is on here in Little Rock. I know Sharon is going to be out there most of the weekend, but I'm not sure how much I'm going to make it to. The only bits I *really* want to see/hear are Trout Fishing In America and the fireworks finale Sunday evening. Fortunately the Trouts last show is at 8 on Sunday, just before the fireworks.

Fortunately also, BLOOD TIES finished its season last weekend, and will be repeating this evening unless Lifetime drops something else entirely in that time slot. Because we can't tape VHS off the newly connected digital cable. We're pricing DVR's but are not in a position to just walk into Best Buy and pick one off the shelf.

If anyone has rave reviews or horror stories about particular brands of DVR's (we're NOT looking to sign up for TiVO; Comcast has their own house brand of that, where they just rent you the box for the $16-some a month) I'd be interested in the information.

My daughters and I will be at Balticon. However, Amy (frostmuffin), the musician in the family, is helping out Renee Alper this week. She might make it to Marcon, depending on Renee's schedule.

I had caught some of Rob Balder's filk last year at Balticon. I'll see about tracking down others of the FuMP this year.

I find myself doing fewer and fewer conventions. Lately I've dropped back to two a year: OVFF and ConCave. The membership overlap between those two conventions is a whopping 5 people, so I do them to see two completely different circles of friends.

No con for me this weekend, I'll just be hanging around the Boston area. My new job gives me only half of the vacation time that my previous job gave me, so I need to be very conservative with when I take my vacation days (I have 2 cons in the fall, each requiring 3 or 4 vacation days, and need 3 days for the Jewish high holidays in between them). Needless to say, this also blows my summer week off and taking the week off between Xmas and New Years.
