If you're not reading Girl Genius... why the HELL not!?

I just got into Girl Genius about two weeks ago. It is definitely worth the lost four to five hours of reading everything that is available to date.

I'd also love to cosplay as Gilgamesh Wulfenbach at Dragon*Con but I don't think I could get something for that pulled together in time.

I do believe that, within about two months, the GG 101 section will have caught up to the stuff originally posted online. And then the whole story will be available online with no break. Huzzah!

That's about the estimate I made. I was telling someone it was about maybe 6 weeks away. I normally don't like skipping arcs in the middle, but at this point, it doesn't look like much was missing.

One of the things I REALLY like about Girl Genius is that they know what they are doing and where they are going. The visions Bangladesh DuPree have been having are obviously something in the future that has happened in the comic yet involving time travel or something of that nature. The comic has been going for what, 5 years? Any comic that knows where it is going to be 8 to 10 years down the road from where it starts is awesome in my book.

I never saw that final issue, but I'm kind of sad not have a "new to me" page every day.

At least they're redoing Buck Godot as well! (http://www.studiofoglio.com/cgi/buck.cgi)

Indeed.

Something interesting about today's, though. We find out the nature of Agatha's humming--she's heterodyning, producing multiple, discrete frequencies.

Any idea how you're going to make that sound if (when?) the music comes up in the GG Musical?

Oh, it absolutely will. And it will likely be a combination of MIDI and processed vocals, possibly with one particular loop I like. I want to get something more rich and interesting than Doc Savage's "trilling".

"The Musical?" Oh dear. Free assosication circuits activated..

Am I the only one hearing "Heterodyning!" as a surfer tune, akin to Mr. Yankovic's "Trigger-happy"?

"I've got a seven-sixteenths left-hand-threaded interstitial vortex wrench!
To torque the 9-dimension triple-meshing couple-flange on the bench.
It should increase the flux by seven-fold:
That ought to keep my toast from getting cold -
Because I'm Heterodyning, redesigning everything."

Um, yes. Not that that's a bad thing. No, I'm shooting much more for an Ashman-Menken-style musical. And I should be able to properly resume work on it later this month or early next month.

Is Othar in it? I wanna play Othar! (Or Master Payne, or a Jaeger, or . . .)

Ohhhh, trust me, m'friend, it'll have multiple parts for you. Absolutely a Jager. Not Master Payne -- I'm only going to do up to the end of Issue 10, and then see what happens after that.

And I wasn't really sure who should play Othar... but I honestly can't think of anyone better suited for the part than you. :) Yeah, actually, yeah. You're perfect.

Can you translate that into volume-ese? When did Issue 10 end, by the current divisions? I think it's somewhere in Volume 4, but don't know where exactly.

(If I thought I could get away with it, I'd dibs Gilgamesh...)

Issue 10 is the end of Volume 3. Or, issues 1-10 are the Omnibus, Vol. 1.

If I remember correctly, Master Payne is based off somebody from real life, so that part's taken if the role ever comes up.

It seems like a theremin might come in handy. Though it's probably easily synthesizable. There's something very pure about the tones it puts out, though, that makes it seem like it would be useful for combining against other, more complex melodies.

I got to play with a theremin at a music shop here in Seattle. It's such a brilliant little instrument.

I have been reading Girl Genius since the preview book first came out. I was saddened when the series moved from print to web-only (plus trades), but Phil has yet to disappoint the fans with the quality of the story. Always in color (unless a flashback requires the serpatone coloring), always on time, and not one spec less on quality now that it is on the web instead of in print. Plus I think the story is coming out faster now that it is on the web than it did when it was in print (or at least it seams that way). This is one series I never want to see end because I know how much I will miss it when it is gone.

The transition from lynch mob mentalities to hopeful faces was my favorite part. I love foglio's faces, specially the smug ones. "She told you she's Agatha Heterodyne."

$deity I wish we knew what Heterodyning sounded like...

Girl Genius is AWESOME. There are so many characters to love!

I'm one of the few GG fans who likes Bangladesh Dupree. Is she going to have a solo song in the musical? Please?

I also do like Baron Wulfenbach a lot, and think he's got a really tough role to play. "When I was with the Heterodyne Boys, we had adventures. Now, it's send in the soldiers...then the bureaucrats with mops. My pleasure is in these few stolen moments of research."

Bang is a lot of fun, yeah - but I'm looking forward to her getting a bit more characterization than "Whee, I'm insane and like to destroy things!" I trust the Foglios to have more to her than that, but we haven't seen it yet.

But Klaus is one of my favorite characters. It's obvious that he believes he's ruling Europe for its own good - and I think he's correct to some degree. He's not your run-of-the-mill despotic madman. (And I really like seeing his love for his son show through. There are a few choice moments when you can tell how much he cares for his son, and how proud he is.)

I like Dupree as well. Sure, she's a bloodthirsty loon - but there's something about the way she is written that makes her a fun bloodthirsty loon.

I loved the comic. I adored the comic. I bought the comic.

Now the comic no longer exists. Only the web comic. And, like all attempts to do full-page comics on the limited computer screen, it's difficult or impossible to enjoy.

So the only Girl Genius I can get is when I encounter Foglio at a convention, IF he has the compilation volumes that he sells. (He has stopped going to several cons, and he can't afford to go to them all. It was a miracle that he was at Dragon*Con last year, since he had previously sworn off it.)

It infuriates me that no matter what crappy concepts are sold in comic book stores (Marvel Zombies, anyone?) this fine comic has to be the most un-purchased, underground secret on Earth.

The problem he has is reading them online. Which I can understand -- the lettering's kinda dense sometimes. Something Positive is going through the same problem right now.

My recommendation is to save the image offline and then read it where you can zoom in on the dialogue. I have to do that with a number of comics.

I spoke imprecisely; I should have said "the compilation volumes are available for purchase online". (This is why the link I provided goes to the buy-the-books-online store, rather than the online version of the comic, which I had understood he was having trouble reading.)

If your local comic store owner is at all customer-service oriented, you can purchase the volumes. I know Diamond has it listed uner "Airship Books".

If they don't special order, check the booksellers.

I've fallen in love with the Spark mentality, that high pure mindrush where everything falls into place and the universe opens up.

Us poor non-Sparks only ever get occasional flashes of brilliance. For a Spark, it's like that almost all the time.

Damn, I'm jealous :/

ZOMGPONIES! I saw the title in a comic store we don't usually go into, grabbed it up and proclaimed to hubby "Look! They've done a comic about MEEE!!!" When we saw that it was by Phil, we BOTH danced with glee. I have to siddown and catch up, I haven't read ANY of the online versions despite many visits to studiofoglio.

Of late, M and I have been discussing would we do this live version, or animated. He votes for animated, because he adores Phil's drawing work. I voted slightly more towards live action, because I wanna be Agatha!! LOL! Although if we took Phil's spec sheets and sent them to Korea, there wouldn't be any Foglio lag time....

We would love to see XXXenophobe up online, those bust us up!

Online really seems to speed up Phil's production, because there is no print delay to add to his own built in delay! And their many sites linking to their home site is brilliant, a sweet page, lotsa fun on it!

(Hmmm, need to check value for mint paper copies - never even cut out the paper dolls or code rings...)
