So, filkertom, your LiveJournal reveals...

You are... 0% unique and 45% herdlike
(partly because you, like everyone else, enjoy politics).
When it comes to friends you are a total whore. In terms of the way you relate to people, you are wary of trusting strangers.

Your writing style (based on a recent public entry) is conventional.

Your overall weirdness is: 6

(The average level of weirdness is: 27.
You are weirder than 6% of other LJers.)

Find out what your weirdness level is!

Pathetic, really. The first clue that something is wrong was on Sara's results, when she was described as "0% unique and 13% herdlike (partly because you, like everyone else, enjoy yoga)". I can think of lots of people who don't enjoy yoga. I'm one of 'em, and I was that way when I was young and thin.

And, I'm sorry, but... if I'm a "total whore", I'd hate to think of what this "analysis" would call me if I was actively whoring.

It might be interesting to know their definition of "weirdness" - it sounds like they might count "indecipherable" as "weird".

Also - how weird is ballad singing? I mean, really? A lot of it is based on your stated interests.

It gave me a weird rating of 52, twice the average weirdness, so it gets somethings right.

Wonder if our jackass from the last "Don't trust anyone on the internets" meme is back at work.

Well, I got to be herdlike because I enjoy singing. The total whore versus not trusting strangers may be because so many people have you on their friends list that you don't have on your friends list. Which is, I suspect, the case in almost all LJers. Making us all herdlike, I suppose.

All in all, this is one of those really poorly defined memes.

I took that silly quiz, too- and I think that some kid made it up. It dinged my interest in zeteticism as 'wierd', but didn't even consider how esoteric most of my interests really are.

Ah, well. I am confident in my eccentricity- I do not need some kiddiequiz to tell me that I am 'pathetic' and 'herdlike'.

It is a pretty simple "analysis". They look at your interests list and how it compares to other LJ users. "Unique" means no one else has that same interest, herdlike means lots of people do. You've only got 20 interests listed, so each one is 5% of the chart.

The other stuff is based on how many "friends" you have and how many "also friend of" people

Oy. So expressing interests that other people might have is "herdlike" and having lots of LJ friends is being "a total whore" and not friending everyone in sight is "wary of trusting strangers" and checking for typos and using actual sentence structure must be "conventional [writing style]". Did Warren Ellis or some other misanthrope come up with this shit, I wonder?

checking for typos and using actual sentence structure must be "conventional [writing style]".

It takes even less than that, considering that [livejournal.com profile] mekkasimian also got "conventional." I know two people who didn't, and both got "intellectual."

I think Mek nailed it with his theory that it scans for 133t.

Could be worse

We've established that a decent percentage of lj's users are fannish. (10% of all active users at least, then add in communities and it goes way up)
So, it's checking the interests of everyoen on lj, and only lj.

So that means, compared to many fans (ie lj users) yoru normal. I checked htis by moving my interests around. You get wierdness points only by having interests that are shared by no one else. (I have one, penguin ultimatum, but the interest merbel which I share only with my daughter, gained 0 weirdness points.)
So it's a perfeclty valid model for determining how much like other lj users you are. Considering your popularity Tom, based on THAT criteria, it's not terribly surprising.

It also goes by number of friend on you list i think.

I took it earlier and I got 100% Peculiar. My "weirdness" was 107. :P

I don't know what it would have come up with if I'd still had my pre-Strikethrough interests... some of those were unique, but I think some were common.

My analysis of the 'test' designer...

... probably based off of just as many assumptions, too!

Ah, written by someone who (a) dislikes politics, (b) has had trouble getting into numerous 'circle of friends', (c) feels that they are a liberal, a weirdo, and a geek, (d) think that A,B,C makes them superior, and (e) wants to sound superior and 'cool.'

Blegh.

Say what?!

I am a professional magician and stage hypnotist, I used to teach martial arts and scored a point on Chuck Norris (and then got handed my ass, thouroughly), I quit parachuting because I crashed into an outhouse and I'm the son of a cartoonist!

How in the frack is that even remotely "normal?!"

Well, see, that was kinda my point. I'm an indie musician, with songs about everything from living stuffed bears to body sculpture to tesseract booze, with a stupidly large DVD collection running the gamut from Kill Bill to The African Queen to The Vampire Lovers to Plan 9 to Winnie The Pooh. I built three of my last four computers and worked with Amigas for ten years, I go to Disney World for the gourmet food, and I had three drum lessons from Buddy Rich. But I'm "herdlike". And I'm still trying to figure out where "a total whore" came from.

A couple of you have mentioned that. So you don't have to go looking, I'll just copy and paste my interests (I have not changed this list in years):
anti-bush, bad movies, comedy, comic books, computers, dvds, elder scrolls, filk, food, good movies, harry potter, lord of the rings, morrowind, movies, mst3k, music, neverwinter nights, pixar, politics, pro wrestling
I could probably put a few more in there, but, yeah. So, it really is "herdlike" to have interests that other people have?

This has got to be written by a sixteen-year-old goth chick.
