Never read the book, but I own the film adaptation with Vincent Price, The Last Man On Earth, and really enjoy it. It gets quite emotional by the end. I should pick up the book and read it before this comes out.

Is this supposed to be a remake of The Last Man on Earth? If so, where are the vampires in the trailer? :)

It is, and I presume they're keeping 'em off screen. I personally don't have a problem with that. Trailers tend to be way too spoilery these days anyway.

Not so sure... The novel's real horror is when you realise that the person you sympathised with all along really is the monster. I'm not sure if a movie starring Will Smith will not just exploit the being-the-last-human-kicking-monsters'-ass aspect. I actually think that this is one of those books that can't be made into a movie.

This looks like about the level of adaption that "I, Robot" was, but I don't care because it looks great and I *liked* "I, Robot"

I don't think there is going to be very many Will Smith smartassed comments in this one...

Oh Good, it's based on a book.

I was worried it was a bastardization of Y: The Last Man.

Amusingly, I was looking at this trailer, and thinking "Wow, I could see them now going full forward with a 'Y' movie, if this does fairly well".

Hmmm...I should post a casting call, for who people think would be good in a Y movie.

And, if you've not read "I Am Legend", I'd recommend it. Matheson has a long history of putting out good books..and, well, writing well. He had many Twilight Zone episodes (the original TZ), and also wrote I Am Legend, and..I think it was called "Bid Time Return", which was turned into Somewhere in Time.

I am, actually, cautiously hopeful. I read a script treatment for this, years ago, when Arnold was attached as the lead. With Will Smith, I'm unsure, but based on the trailer, willing to give it a chance.

I don't see it blowing the original book for me, but then, I saw a lot of possibilities from that book, in a translation from book to screen. And, it comes out at the end of this year. Cool!
