I first read about this movie over a year ago, and I already love that little robot. I hope this movie doesn't disappoint. It's supposed to be something quite different and, from what I've heard, quite awesome. *dance*
Here's a fine testament to Pixar's reputation - Last night, before a "Ratatouille" preview screening (AMAZING movie, btw, not that we were expecting less) the theater buzzed with small talk and idle chatter during uninteresting trailers for the diarrheic "Daddy Day Camp" and "Underdog" movies (by the way, Hollywood doesn't think your kids know the difference between Eddie Murphy and Cuba Gooding Jr. just so you know).
Then the "Wall-E" trailer started...and all of a sudden, an appreciative silence filled the theater. You could hear a pin drop.
For the spoiler inclined, Jim Hill gives away some "Wall-E" plot elements here - http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/archive/2007/02/26/toon-tuesday-again.aspx. Don't go, though, unless you're SERIOUSLY seeking spoilers.
I have a huge amount of emotional investment in it, but I am steeling myself. I will never again have a moment as I did after seeing the celluloid rogering that was the live-action Grinch, and I damn sure will not have it after this piece of pap. The trailers alone are so bad that there is no possible way this can be anything but awful... but it is Underdog, and I will see it.
And then I will review it.
Have your Gallager™-autograph splash shields ready.
Sure, Disney calls it Underdog. Disney also calls their Magic Kingdom centerpiece "Cinderella Castle," but that doesn't mean Cinderella lives there. Underdog was a lot of things, but he was NOT a bogus live-action dog with an even boguser CGI mouth.
This film means precisely one thing to me: an excuse for a proper DVD release of the cartoon. Beyond that, it's an enormous, steaming pile of rancid pig offal that we're all better off ignoring. I don't have the time or the energy to treat it the way wyngarde treats Transformers, so I'll just spend that ten dollars elsewhere and be done with it.
Jason Lee's also playing Dave in the Chipmunks movie - this guy was apprehensive about playing EARL for Chrissakes and now look at what he'll do for a check.
