Those of you who want a permanent account on LiveJournal, pay attention. They go on sale for one week, starting this Thursday. $150 gets you many benefits, if you want those benefits. And, if you sign up in the first 36 hours, $25 goes to things like EFF and Creative Commons.

I will admit to some amusement, considering the userbase's goodwill towards LJ is not exactly at its highest at the moment.

We'll see how this sale goes over...

I'd love the benefits, but they're not getting a dime out of me until after they clarify the new policies about what sort of content they're "unwilling to host".

*sigh*

After the recent... unpleasantness... I'll stick with my Annual subscription. I was planning to get one, but not anymore. Any group that kowtow to any religious extremist group gets many, many bad marks from me. I don't want to be permanently attached to 6A in case they again stray from the ideal of Freedom of Expression.

Not worth my time. Nobody in any company reads complaints. Seems the more companies create tech support and customer support organizations, the less tech support and customer support actually reaches us.

If Companies didn't read complaints, then the organizations that get companies to bend to their will would actually fail.

The Vocal minority is a truism, often because the majority wishes to remain silent.

I've got a religious extremist group here, wants to examine that claim.

Patently untrue, even as a generalization. Apart from [livejournal.com profile] zibblsnrt's implied reference to Strikeout 2007 here on LJ, I've got previous (recent) historical evidence to the contrary. I've had an airline (American) and a railroad (Amtrak) both provide discount-for-future-travel certificates due to horrific travel experiences, and the occasional "Here's a coupon for a free ${whatever}" from the manufacturer when a package of something foodlike was defective (the most recent was one bag inside a sealed collection of snack-chips was open thus stale).

Yeah that's my feeling too. I was considering a permanent account until the Warriors for Innocence shit hit the fan.

It depends on how the budget falls out the night of the 27th, when I get paid next. If I can afford it, I'm going to get one.

As for the politics of the situation, I made my statement in this post (http://raven-ap-morgan.livejournal.com/81777.html). For those of you who do not care to click to the content of the post, let me reprise the essence of the post: Get Over It.

er, no.
I make my decisions based off what I observe.
I am not comfortable with handing 6a $150, currently, and will be waiting to see what happens.
You are welcome to decide to spend your money on a perm account, and I very well might do so next time around.
As long as it's my money, though, we are talking about - I'll take whatever I want into consideration before choosing to spend or not.

So - this time, I pass, watch, and wait.

The problem isn't simply one of politics. It's also one of competence -- i.e. "If they pull this kind of stupid crap, are they going to last long enough for a permanent account to get past the break-even point?"

Got one. I was originally planning to get one as a graduation present for somebody, but until LJ and 6A get their respective acts together about free speech and interests lists, they're not likely to see any more of my money.

I'm thinking about it, for two reasons:

1) If I stay on LJ for more than another 5 years, it'll save me money. Why 5 years rather than 6? Because I also pay extra for more icon space, and I won't have to do that any more.

2) An argument can be made either way on who they'll listen to more. I think a lot of people are thinking, "Once they know they've got me, why should they care about my opinion?" I think it's equally likely that a permanent account user's voice will carry more weight, simply because they've made that level of commitment.

The other thing all of you who are worried about 6A's corporate attitudes can do is buy stock when they go public. A stockholder's voice automatically gets more attention than J. Random Wingnut's ever will.

I think it's a wonderful idea to allow for a donation to such as the EFF/CrCo. I'm not going to get a perm account, this time, but I'm going to wait and see how 6a handles themselves and will consider one next time around.
