This was confirmed on the phone today, so I guess I can spill.

I'm the new Filk Track Director for this year's Dragon*Con.

What this means is that I program the filk concerts. I need to speak to the Boogie Knights and the Bards; I also have been in communication with Grant of Throwing Toasters. And a few of you have expressed interest. Usually the filk concerts at Dragon*Con are an hour, but I suspect some folks will work much better in a half-hour, which also gives us more concerts. ;)

I believe I will have input on the concourse concerts; I'm also working to set up a Big Comedy Concert, which I am doing everything I can to get on Sunday afternoon. And, when I say big, I ain't kiddin' around. It's gonna be FuMP-tastic PLUS, with Rob Balder, The Great Luke Ski, Worm Quartet, Possible Oscar, Paul and Storm, and more. Heck, even I might throw a few songs around.

It is also my extraordinary pleasure to announce that the Filk GOH for Dragon*Con this year will be... Carla Ulbrich! (Who, by the way, is getting married this coming Saturday to the equally spiff Joe Giacoio -- congratulations!)

Whew. It's been a long time setting some of this stuff up, but I think it'll all work out now.

Hmmmmm... the world's fastest filker in charge of a con filk track. Do the others know what they're getting into?

Congradulations!! How did you find the extra 2-4 hours per day to fit this into your already overloaded schedule?? I know that my body would be happy if I was on a 26 hour day schedule so I could get enough sleep.

As far as I'm concerned, yes. I still have no idea what exactly I have to offer people, although I should have that all next week -- but I'll get you in if I have to pay for your badge myself.

I'd love to be worked in someplace - I'm going to be there for the YA literature track, but will also be "musical guest" at the Mr. Star Wars pageant and would love to do a filk set.

I'll tell Roberta Rogow to contact you, if she wants to do a concert. She is attending Dragoncon. (And will have a new CD too.)

Congratulations and good luck!!

The new CD is recordings of her concerts from Lunacon and Philcon 2006. Its a live CD.

Most of the songs have not been published before. (One is on her last tape and should have been on Recycled Rogow. (Now out of print CD)).

More info available from me via email (since this is Tom's Blog and not an open advertising thread). I can be reached at my first name at panix dot com

Very cool. I haven't been to a Dragon*Con since 1990, but this may convince me to reconsider my "Not only no, but hell no!" rule I've had for that con ever since.

Room space...

Can you use your newfound powers to get us a room larger than a small closet? Or will we once more gather at the Hutt, only to be shooed away be security?

I'm gonna do everything I can to get us actual space. All that's been confirmed so far is that I'm doing this. It hasn't even been updated on the D*C web page yet. So take NOTHING for granted until I say it here.

Gee, I hope HTML tags are recognized here, or this is going to look pretty stupid...

Well, that explains some of the furtive behavior and sleepless nights. Congrats!! (**yes? no? sympathy?**) Wish I could make it this year.

Hell, I just wish I knew when and where it was. Shows what getting old does for you. Need to go back to the website and refresh my memory...

Just don't hold the Archon Filk experience up for comparison. In spite of it being no. 31, it's a virgin con as far as an attempt to actually have filk programming is concerned! At least, in my humble but always correct opinion...

Kudos, man! I'm sure it will be great!
