You'd think reviewers would have the smallest clue about what it is they're reviewing.

See, after its Japanese premiere, there are reviews online of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. And, quite apart from any considerations of shipping (you may recall I'm a Harmonian, i.e., Harry/Hermione), one review just has me shaking my head at the utter cluelessness of the reviewer.

It's the one in the Telegraph, which contains this nugget:
And that much-anticipated kiss with his fellow pupil Cho might put people off. It lingers just a bit too long and there is not enough chemistry.
Ummm... guy? Did you not read the book? Did you not see the rest of the movie? They have one awkward kiss and that's it. Did you not consider that they don't have chemistry because they're not supposed to?

I swear, those who can't do, teach, and those who can't teach, critique.

*headslap*

If that kiss wasn't ackward and lack-luster, then I'd be hugely disappointed.

The informal "review" I've heard seems like good news, although Snape and Lupin seem to have had almost all of their lines cut.. especially Lupin. He gets 2 lines. And there was a bit of a change to the Bellatrix/Sirius fight, but it's not something painful... Just something to help the non-readers in the audience.

By the by, Ratatouille... Saw it this morning, absolutely loved it. Brad Bird has outdone himself yet again.

TWO!? ARGH. What are they DOING?! *flail* He'd better get some play in Book 7, anyway.

I second the Ratatouille praise. What an incredible film. I'm seeing it again next week. What a better way to spend my morning than sitting outside an Apple Store, like some of my friends. Heh.

Oh, terrific. This one's going to be an even longer trailer than Scenes From "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", isn't it?

Do you suppose Mundungus, Mrs. Figg or Lockhart will appear at all?

It pisses me off that they're even showing the kiss. It worked in the book because of the subtlety.

But, I hate the HP movies. I'm a cannon girl.

I wouldn't go so far as "hate", but I see them as not much more than mildly amusing visual aids/cliff's notes.

LOVE the icon, BTW. :-)

That is my third-favorite HP icon of all time.

Before you ask, the number one has Ron, Harry, and Hermione, labelled, "OT3".

And the number two has Harry reading with an aghast expression: "'And then, Harry said, "Harder, Professor!"'? Who WRITES this shit?!"

Can't take credit, got it from a friend. And to continue the HP mutual admiration thing, I've had "It's Can(n)on" stuck in my head for the last 2 days. :-)

For me your icon is too fast to read. Especially with the fancy print on the final frame. I'd like to read it--tried about ten times.

Yeeeah. That would be the kiss that Harry could only describe as "wet". :P

And wouldn't Casablanca have been a thousand times better if that foreign chick had stayed on the ground and married that deep-voiced dude, in a huge wedding with lots of colorful flowers and yummy chocolate? I like chocolate.

The idiot.

BTW, last night on The Colbert Report Stephen had a few spoilers on book seven - "Turns out Hermione's a dude, Voldemort is the ghost of Harry's father (whose real name is Rosebud) and in the last chapter Harry wakes up in bed next to Suzanne Pleshette"

The the TV show, the Insider, they said something like, "Will new character, Luna Lovegood, rival Cho for Harry's affection." That's a broad paraphrasing. Appantly they didn't read book six, either. LOL

Yea, but all told, Harry could do worse

than Luna. She was the only person who was any real comfort to him after Sirius died.

I just hate it when supposedly reputable TV shows like that get it wrong. I mean, isn't there ANYONE on their staff who has read book six?

Well, there you have it *rolls eyes* And, er, JKR didn't even bother to write the kiss in the book. Which, IMO, meant "Do not invest in this ship because it is DOOOOMED":P

I'm not sure you're being fair to the reviewer. The movie should be able to stand on its own. If it's not clear from the movie that the kiss is supposed to lack chemistry, than that's the film's fault, not the reviewer's.

If you have to have read the book to understand the movie, then it's a bad movie. The movie's director shouldn't just try to coast by on the assumption that everyone will know what's supposed to be going on.

Er, as much as a movie in a series can, anyway. If you have to be familiar with anything to understand Order of the Phoenix, then it should be the previous movies, not the books.

Well, theoretically, right after The Kiss, Harry has The Talk About The Kiss with Ron and Hermione, in which they go into almost excruciating detail why the kiss was awkward. If they don't have that talk, then Ye Ball Is Dropped by the filmmakers.

I recall reading that the directors/screenwriter wanted to cut "a minor character" from OOTP and Rowling warned them off that idea, saying it would screw them up for the 7th movie, maybe it's Lupin?

Or possibly Tonks.

A couple hardcore fans that saw the movie already have said that, despite all the changes, it remains their favorite of all the movies, thus far.

They actually gave a detailed list of what things were cut out. For instance, there's still no mention of the Weasley Twins joke shop, BUT Hermione still harps on them for testing their Skiving boxes out on students.

I could post the other changes, but I'll just give people a chance to see it in a couple weeks, rather than ruining bits now.

As far as I know, Tonks is in there. Specifically, she's played by Natalia Tena (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1164730/), and you can see pics of her here (http://nataliatena.net/). If they cut her out, they're doing so after they've filmed her.

Dunno if the WWW shop will be there, but obviously the Twins' quitting Hogwarts will be, from the tiny clip in the trailer.
