You may remember the teaser trailer for James Cawley's forthcoming web series rebooting Buck Rogers.

Well, here's a scene from it, and guess who's in it:

Yep, Buck and Wilma themselves, Gil Gerard and Erin Gray.

Many thanks to [personal profile] hughcasey for pointing this out.

Found it buried in the pages of Gil's site:

My word. Nice shout-out. I bet they would have gotten Buster Crabbe if they only could.

O but Gil and Erin look old and if they are, that does that make me? o_O

They were just made up to be old. They're still young. Yeah, that's the ticket.

There is a line of connection. Buster Crabbe appeared as an old retire pilot named "Gordon" on Gil's TV version, and now Gil appearing here. A very nice line.

And having just seen Erin and Gil at a con last year, they are made up a bit older cause they both looked great when I saw them

Thanks Doc, I feel better about the age thing. Still. That was what, 30 years ago. Sigh.

The Buster Crabbe cameo in question is in part 2 of Planet of the Slave Girls and is available on Hulu. Watching it as we speak. ;-)

It was practically a giveaway when you said "guess who's in it." I was thinking either Gil Gerard or Erin Gray, and was wondering, "Okay, which one?"

Nice bit of casting. It will certainly attract those with fond memories of the 1980s series, if just for the curiosity factor.

Don't you dare tell SciFi anything. Next thing you know they'll take it over and it'll have "space dinosaurs" in a gritty alternative WWI-the-Germans-won universe. Complete with hard-as-nails "Buck" who watched the evil controlled dinosaurs eat his parents.

Written by Frank Miller.

Then it'll run one season and they'll cancel it.

...I'll go take my meds now...

;-)

This looks great!

But why do they keep changing Buck's real name? It started out as Anthony; Gil Gerard's version was William; and now Lucas... is this just some sort of running gag? He mentioned a brother named Tony; presumably that's a shout-out, like having Bruce's dad be David Banner in Ang Lee's Hulk..

And if you like what you see here, you should look at Jim's other major production, now called "Star Trek: Phase II." And his Buck, aka Bobby Quinn Rice, can be seen in several episodes of "Star Trek: Hidden Frontier" here (http://www.hiddenfrontier.com).

Erm...no.

70s-era BUCK ROGERS sucked almost as badly as the original BATTLESTAR GALACTICA did.

My Buck Rogers was and is Buster Crabbe, and he's dead.

Hey I LIKED Flash Gordon... for a while... then I got busy... and forgot to watch half the series... and hardly noticed when they canceled it.

...

OK maybe it wasn't that great as a reboot. It would have worked better as a standalone without the Flash Gorden expectations. I did like what they did with Dr.Zarkov though.

At first I was tempted to make a joke recalling the Robot Chicken skit.

But this is too good to make such a crude reference. It looks like Buck is returning to his roots. I think I have some episodes from the Old Time Radio website.
