Sorry I couldn't post yesterday. We'll just make it Friday for this week. I've only got a couple of things, but I like 'em:
  • I've still got a sale going till Monday.
  • Girl Genius has been rocking harder than usual lately, and that's saying something.
  • Next week I'm going to America's Best for some new glasses, and I'll let you know how they work out.
Ready, set... Pimp Your Stuff!

"ANIME FAN"

by the great Luke Ski, featuring Carrie Dahlby!

Download the MP3 for FREE at the Funny Music Project:

http://www.thefump.com !

Continuing in my career long quest to have a song on every major topic in the many worlds of geeky fandom, I bring you my tribute to the entire genre of Japanese Animation, more commonly known here in the states as "Anime". This parody of "Candyman" By Christina Aguilera sung by Carrie Dahlby covers everything to the kiddie programs, to the giant robot shows, to the teen melodramas, to the 'adult' stuff. With any luck, there will be at least a dozen AMVs posted on YouTube of this song within a month. If you make one, please be sure to tell folks in titles at the end of the video that they can find the song "Anime Fan" at "the FuMP dot com"! Arigatō! ;D

HEY REAL LIFE ANIME FANS! Please help spread the word about this song to anyone you know in the anime fan community, I would to see Anime Music Videos made for this song, and to have people use this song as a part of Masquerade, Costume Contest, and other Cosplay related convention events across the world! So please spread the love and tell all the Anime Fans you know out there online to come download the song for free at the FuMP dot com today!

(After April 1st, the song will move into the FuMP Archive where it will cost 99 cents to download it.)

There used to be a site called AnimeMusicVideos.org (or .com I forget which). I wonder if it's still up. If it is, I'd say you should go there if you're looking for AMVs.

I remember some good AMVs. Apart from YouTube (which I image is very hard to organize) where else can we find them?

The site is still up and it's still the best place to get amv's. In fact, they recently finished their viewer's choice awards, with all of the winners and runner-ups listed for easy download.

Forgot to mention, a while back you did a song about Ramna 1/2. Any chance of you doing a remake of it? No offense intended, but the audio bits from the series you used sounded like you played them over an old fashion audio cassette player. I remember the loud *click* after each one. Maybe now after getting more experience and better equipment the remake could have the audio clips integrated more smoothly.

My Kokomo parody "Ranma Soutome" was written and recorded at the very beginning of my career. And you are correct, those are cassette player noises. Furthermore my singing was far from great, amongst other problems the song has that I chose to ignore back in my beginner days. Unless I had a very specific reason to redo that song that would make it topical, like if there was going to be an American live-action movie based on Ranma 1/2 directed by Michael Bay starring Keanu Reeves as Ryoga Hibiki ("Do you know the way to Furinkan High School? No? Bogus!"), I doubt I'll ever make the effort and pay the money to remake it. In fact, the creation of "Amine Fan" was meant to be an upgrade replacement of "Ranma" in my geeky music repertoire, so I had a piece that covers the whole genre of Anime.

Actually I thought that was one of your better early works (without the cassette player clicking). But yeah, it does seem that the days of Ranma are behind us. Time runs along and has left us older fans in the dust.

Is it me or has the quality of anime gone down in the past 10 years? I haven't sat down to watch any in a long time and the only thing I'm sort of looking forward to is the next Slayers series.

No reason to believe that the glasses won't work out. I replaced a $650 pair of optician-built glasses with a $30 pair from Zenni Optical with the same prescription and have been wearing them for over a year, and they're great. I have no plans to pay more than $100 a pair again, unless my prescription becomes difficult. I may have to pay a bit more when I start needing bifocals (I'm about there now) but hopefully it'll end there.

solarbird: Cover of the first Crime and the Forces of Evil EP release, Sketchy Characters (sketchy characters)

I'm gonna pimp my only thing in a minute (I'M GONNA LET ME FINISH BUT) first I'm gonna point people at these big multi-band events that SJ Tucker and K. Wiley are trying to put together in Seattle, St. Louis, and Boston. They're multi-art events and it sounds interesting. They're trying to see what kind of scale of event they can pull off so need questionnaires filled out from people who might be interested. Go look! (Link will open in new tab or window.)

Me, I got a really nice review of my CD Sketchy Characters over here. The reviewer ([livejournal.com profile] lyonesse) particularly liked Cascadia (How I Have Missed You) (and I'd have embedded a player but LJ is saying NO PLAYER FOR J00 TODAY; that said, click on the link to listen to the song) but said good things about every track on the CD. I'm really happy. ^_^

I got another nice review on Facebook but I can't link to it because Facebook can bite me. And I've been told there'll be a review out today on another site, but it's not out yet. It's all very exciting! Despite my head cold. Yay! ^_^

For prescription glasses (single vision) for $8, try Zenni Optical (www.zennioptical.com). $5 shipping per order, no matter how many different pairs/prescriptions you get. They are Made In China, just FYI (but, hey, my feeling is that Chinese people have to eat, too). Sunglasses tint -- $5. Anti-glare coating--$5. A friend got two pairs through them and was very pleased. If nothing else, it might be useful for spare pairs.

You need to get your pupillary distance measurement as well as your left and right eye prescriptions from your eye care professional.
