Busy morning. New goodie at The Funny Music Project: The Sideshow! See, we've had many people submit songs, and our membership is already kinda tight... so we thought, "Let's put up an area where everybody can submit stuff".

The first offering, "Sheep In The Morning" by TV's Kyle, is too damn catchy for its own good.

Tom - Does someone on the FuMP staff listen before they appear or is there some criteria for submitting?

Also, are their LIMITS on what songs can go up?? For example, I just did 8 hours of recording at a housefilk, am I able/allowed (with permission of the performer and composer(s)) to post a recording from there? (Yes, I know about filk archive and actively support it by getting permission for songs to be uploaded to there.)
What about commercial tunes which royalties will have to be paid on?
Who pays those?

Right now, when you try to submit something there are Terms Of Service that mention all those things. I think they should be available before you even try, and I'm going to try to convince Devo to link up to 'em.

The TOS on the submit page does explain all this but let me just reiterate a couple things here.

> Does someone on the FuMP staff listen before they appear or is there some criteria for submitting?

Yes. We approve all the songs that are posted. We do not allow hate speech, personal attacks, or anything overly graphic or pornographic. (I know that last one is kind of vague.) Anything else is fair game.

> Also, are their LIMITS on what songs can go up?? For example, I just did 8 hours of recording at a housefilk, am I able/allowed (with permission of the performer and composer(s)) to post a recording from there?

There are no time limits, if that's what you mean, but I don't know that posting an 8 hour recording in one file is a good idea. But as long as you have permission from the artist to post it you're welcome to.

> What about commercial tunes which royalties will have to be paid on?

You can't post songs that you don't own the rights to or have permission to post. So this isn't an issue. So posting a Weird Al song is not allowed, unless Al or Jon want to do it. :)

Thank you for clarifying those questions. It was something I was concerned about what will appear. The FuMP has had a number of great songs so far. (Now to go bother people for permissions of legally postable songs...) :)

All recordings remain on who's servers? My end or your end?

Your server. We're not hosting anything, just pointing to your file.

Will the Sideshow songs be included on the CDs?

Not that I'm aware of. The idea is to give people who aren't actually in The FuMP the chance to expose their music to our listeners.

We have slots open daily, so assuming new songs are posted every day that would be a new CD every 2 weeks. That would probably be more than we can handle. :)

I won't be able to check out the FuMP until I get home (firewall issues at work). But "Sheep in the Morning" triggered an earworm of Uncle Bonsai's "Boys Want Sex in the Morning", and, well, the association is not quite the thing. Ahem.
