Sadness. As you've likely already seen, actor Peter Graves has passed away at the age of 83.

He will always be known for his role in the TV series Mission: Impossible (and fuck the makers of the first movie for turning Phelps into a bad guy) and for a whole bunch of B-movies in the 50s and early 60s... but I thought it appropriate to remember this as well:

Is it wrong I immediately think of MST3K and the screenplay that Crow wrote about the life of Peter Graves?

Because that's what comes immediately to mind. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gy0Gd2-GdOI)

Nope. I was thinking about the ribbing they gave Graves at the end of Parts: the Clonus Horror and all the other MST3K movies Graves was in. There was also "Killers from Outer Space" that The Film Crew did with Graves in it.

"I am Peter Graves, and I went to the University of Minnesota."

Yeah, I thought of that first too.

Both the Arness brothers made the 60's so much more entertaining.

(( Peter Graves was born Peter Arness, his older brother James was "Matt Dillion" of "Gunsmoke" fame ))

I'm on a dial-up connection so I can't tell what the video you've posted is, Tom. All I can say is: Airplane. Airplane. Airplane.

I second your fuck upon the makers of the first MI movie, for multiple reasons. I -loved- the show, and that could've been such a goddamned great movie...

As is, glad Peter Graves wasn't in it. RIP.

I actually liked them making Phelps into the villain in the movie. It's not like Spooks have a retirement home or 401K waiting for them.

Not gonna lie, when I saw he'd died on the news during lunch, I turned to my co-worker who wasn't paying attention and said, "You ever been to a Turkish prison?"

And deity of choice bless her, she responded, "You ever seen a grown man naked?"

Then I explained, and we sang the MI theme on our way back to the office.

Poor guy. He learned too late that Man is a feeling creature, and because of it, the greatest in the universe...
