I'm packing up to get on the road -- primary plan being avoiding Monday morning Dallas rush-hour -- and I want to take this opportunity to say Thank You So Very Much to the excellent crew at FenCon for a fine, fine time. Tim & Mary Miller, Russ Miller and his wife (I think Leeann, but Mr. Brain is a touch overloaded), Ed Dravecky, the always-fantastic Gerry Tyra sound team, the staff people, the wonderful Connie Willis and equally wonderful Steve Perry, Wm. Mark Simmons, Kathleen Sloan, Margaret Middleton, and damn what a great bunch o' fans. Seriously, this con rocked, and it may take me a couple of years but I will be back.

P.S.: When I do come back, we're gonna find some really good hole-in-the-wall BBQ. Spring Creek was good, but not great, and I have the strong suspicion I'm gonna get me some Interstate when I pass through Memphis on the way home.

So how's your day looking?

After the weekend I had, I'm actually looking forward to work.

The day is looking not as good as the weekend was. My flight back from the con was delayed, and I didn't get home until after 1 AM. Sleep will be good, and then tomorrow begins the caffeine withdrawal symptoms that accompany the end of my annual convention season.

The best hole-in-the-wall BBQ I've ever had was at the Hickory Stick in Everman, which is just south of Ft. Worth. Admittedly, that's a bit out of the way from Addison, but if you head there on Friday for lunch, they have incredible ribs.

Back to the salt mine, but in a good mood. Nothing like a good con to brighten up the work week.

We will find you better BBQ next time.

If we have time for the 25 mile drive, we can take you to BABES, which serves only two things: Family-style Chicken Fried Steak and Chicken Fried Chicken. It is so good your arteries start to harden just watching them bring out the big platters of steak, chicken, and side dishes. Oh and occasionally the staff will stop and dance the Hokey Pokey.

It was great getting to hear you live finally. Also my conscience is now soothed having finally paid you for all of your music that friends have "loaned" me over the years.

You took what is normally a really great con and made it awesome. Thanks.

Looks kinda ordinary from here: website work this afternoon, gaming tonight. I did get a lead over the weekend on some contract programming for a Beltway Bandit, which is good. Looking forward to a trip to Minnesota this coming weekend.

I loved your Dead Dog performance. Being on the over night videoroom shift kept me out of a lot of the programming.

Anniversary

Today's kitten and my 20th wedding anniversary, so we're going to go out and eat--probably at Texas Roadhouse. Then, we're back to the house to watch the first episode of the second season of Heroes.

I didn't have a lot of money, so I wrote her a short story (shared for y'all on my LJ page if you're interested. I got tears and a really hard hug, so I think it came out all right.

Work's fine, got four sections of 203 class--did two short technique lectures. Feel pretty good, health wise (except for allergies, damn it). Writing forcast for today: scattered ideas with clearing likely later.

20th anniversarry? Congradulations. Wow, I did not realize it had been that long. Unless I am thinking of the wrong Tom and Kitten here, in which case I will feel very embarrased. See you around The Place!

Man, I wish I had known you were coming through or Pickles and I would have hooked you up :). In addition to Interstate, there's a new joint I really like - especially for the beef brisket and homemade BBQ potato chips - it's called Central BBQ and is very good.

If you make it back to Memphis let me know and I'll make sure you have a plate (especially since it's only a block or two from my house :) )

here are my favorites:
Pulled Pork - Interstate
Ribs - The Rendevous
Beef Brisket - Central BBQ
Chicken - Corky's (Corky's has really started tasting like it's a chain, but I still like their chicken :) )

Spring Creek BBQ is decent but this is what you get when you let the Connecticut-born con chair pick the BBQ place. Next time we'll have to take you down to the original Sonny Bryan's for the good stuff. It was great to see (and hear!) you again. Thanks ever so much for the post-con concert for the staff and volunteers at the Dead Dog Party. I definitely hope to see you again at FenCon in a few years.

No, no, no. I asked a couple of the hotel employees. They swore up and down that Spring Creek was the real stuff. And, you're welcome -- it was fun. :)

There's a Corky's just around the corner from Studio Joe in Little Rock, if we can arrange you a gig here sometime.
