There was one directory that did not want to properly copy from my old, obviously screwed-up external hard drive.

The one labeled "iTom".

It looked empty. As in, completely empty.

My previous back-up of the whole magilla had been a few months ago. Up to iTom 032. (Yes, yes, I know. Never again.) I was missing, among other things, all of the work files for iTom 4.0.

I told you the last time something like this happened that a program named Stellar Phoenix had bailed me out. But I've been using the laptop as my main computer the past several months, and I'd forgotten to migrate the program to it. So I got the desktop out again. Jeez, Athlon XP 2600+. By contemporary standards, slower than dirt.

But it works.

And Stellar Phoenix did it again.

I'm backing up stuff tonight. I have a music project I have to finish for tomorrow.

So how's your weekend?

Yay Tom! That is great news :)
My desktop is an athlon 2800+. Works great for anything but gaming :P
I had a hugely relaxing day today, inluding a 3-hour nap which I didn't know I needed. All the appliances got maintenance checks and I picked some fresh tomatoes and butternut squash in the garden next door. Also, my dervish got to rampage through Eye of the North for a while :D

Better than yours computer-wise, apparently, although it's Thanksgiving here this weekend (Hullo from Soviet Canuckistan!) and the idea of "family time" is giving me an anxiety attack for justifiable reasons.

Regular backups. What an idea. In my copious free time, ha ha, I really have to hook up that bigger hard drive.

Got religion yet?

I'm having a pretty good day: getting the file server re-organized at long last, and my first walk with running shoes, new arch supports, and heart-rate monitor showed that I'm not in quite as bad shape as I thought I was.

At some point I really do need to copy the files on my laptop over to a machine that can handle writing CDs, so as to make a proper backup. Thank you for reminding me!

My cat needed to be brought to the emergency vet last night, and the last inch of her tail needed to be amputated. The cone isn't quite enough to keep her from gnawing on the stitches.

And I currently can't leave my apartment, because the doorknob is broken. I don't know of any emergency number for contacting my landlord about this, so I may well be trapped here until Monday, at which point I'll climb out my window so I can leave.

Thank goodness I live on the first floor.

Successful.

Fixed a friend's computer by installing new mb, proc and ram. Tried a test boot and figured I would see what would happen if it booted up in XP. Found all of his new hardware (prompted for a LOT of drivers), but it worked on the first shot. (Rare that I was able to do a motherboard swap on XP with NO issues.)

Recorded for about 3 hours on a CD for Kathy Sands (last recording session, we think.)

And got to a NYC fan group meeting after the recording was done.

Obviously not as harrowing as yours. I've just lost time, that's all, with my third trip to Orlando in the past 9 days. All time in Orlando spent inside hotel conference rooms, too.

I bought a "shelving system" (I can almost hear George Carlin's rant about systems) called Elfa that from The Container Store which was expensive but I think could work out nicely. I want it to carry potentially a hundred pounds of books so I wanted a strong shelf. But it's not exactly meeting my needs. It's great for boxes and such, but I have hundreds of paperback books I'd like to display so I may need to buy a second freestanding set of shelves. Honestly I was more impressed with the magazine holders that hold 15 or so issues of NewType. I'll go back in a few weeks to get more holders and anything I decide I need for the Elfa.

I'm also defrosting my chest freezer. I've had it for over a year, figured maybe it was time. There's this thing called flexaganism (sp) that's basically being vegetarian except you allow yourself meat occasionally. It's harder than you think. At least for me since the supermarket doesn't have a big variety of veggies. Most people see it as a side or a salad. And since I'm single, I have to get small portions that won't go bad before I can use them. Also the supermarket had a sale on a brand of polish sausage that works out well for "Emergency Rations #1" in the sci-fi fan cookbook "Adventures in Spice & Thyme" which I bought at Duckon 2005 after Tom Smith's concert.
