misslaura at The Daily Kos links up to the most ridiculous, grotesque, and yet somehow potentially edible pizza you ever did see.
What do you like on a 'za? I'm a straight-up pepperoni man, although I often add mushrooms or pineapple. I also like plain cheese pizza now and then. Uno's deep-dish Prima Pepperoni and CPK's Thai Chicken Pizza are separate entities, gifts from the gods.

Date: 2007-10-28 09:17 pm (UTC)I love just about any food on a pizza, even anchovies, as I recently found out, so it looks like I did jump the gun on my "Pizza is Pizza" *heh* ;)

Date: 2007-10-28 09:32 pm (UTC)Having said that though, anything that's not leafy or used to swim is pretty much ok by me.
Granted, I have had the occasional one nuke my tongue though...[Thai green curry pizza anyone?]

Date: 2007-10-28 09:41 pm (UTC)Also, I like all-cheese pizza sometimes, minus the tomato sauce.
And as it happens, I am on my way out for some pizza now.

Date: 2007-10-28 09:48 pm (UTC)Best pizza I ever had, though, was this giant pepperoni pizza four of us split at a little joint a few miles from the Grand Canyon. The name? "We Cook Pizza and Pasta." Pretty straightforward, no?
And that pizza was de-lic-ious...

Date: 2007-10-28 10:00 pm (UTC)Beyond that, mix 'n' match" I like a good eggplant pizza if it's prepared well. Never been into the cult of pepperoni, but I likes me some sausage on the pizza, in big clumps. Plum tomatoes are nice, too, as are artichokes. Veggie pizzas, if I'm in the mood for 'em, are much yum, with spinach, mushroom, artichoke, broccoli, maybe roasted garlic cloves ... mmmmmmmmm .... (It's a good thing I just ate dinner.)
Also a big fan of the BBQ chicken pizza, particularly when caramelized onions are part of the package.
But that McDonald's pizza has to be the worst-looking, worst-sounding thing I've ever seen. (It's a bad thing I just ate dinner.)

Date: 2007-10-28 10:21 pm (UTC)Pepperoni, extra cheese, and jalepe~no also works well for me.
Just about anything from Hideaway (http://www.hideawaypizza.com/) is wonderful, though I'll confess a certain weakness for Papa John's crust as well.
But really, as long as there's onion, cheese, and either beef or pork, I'm happy.

Date: 2007-10-28 10:26 pm (UTC)Pepperoni not so much, chicken or ham is okay (though better in stromboli or calzone), and fish of any sort is Right Out.

Date: 2007-10-29 03:52 am (UTC)My other conditions for pizza are: No pineapple, no nuts, no "trendy" toppings (ie. broccoli, barbecued steak/chicken, Thai anything, feta cheese, etc.), no anchovies, and no bloody American-style crust. I'm Canadian; I'm comfortable with what I grew up eating, and I don't like thin, crunchy crusts that taste like
they're from the grocery storecardboard. Pizza crust should bend when you pick it up, and have approximately the same texture as dense, chewy bread.(no subject)

Date: 2007-10-29 04:28 am (UTC)Only problem I have is with cheap cheese. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but I can't stomach (literally) the cheap cheese some places use. Problem is they don't have lists of ingredients, or any useful information, on the cheap stuff, so I haven't found any specifics on what to avoid.

Date: 2007-10-29 04:49 am (UTC)But, actually I like the specialty pizzas with feta cheese and grilled chicken and peppers or a chicken pizza with pesto instead of a red sauce. I find I'm not as into extra cheese as I used to be.
I'm really sick of Dominos and Pizza Hut -- our only two Athenian (Athens, Alabamian that is) pizza sources.

Date: 2007-10-29 05:22 am (UTC)I can't order out for 'em anymore, they make them too salty.
So I buy premade crusts and go crazy. My typical:
Sauce: starting with tomato paste, thin it either with a red wine, or with water in which I've had sundried tomatoes simmering for a while. Add aforementioned sundried tomatoes, a bit of fresh garlic, some oregano, a grind or three of black pepper, a couple dashes of sea salt (not too much), a wee skootch of ginger and clove, and a metric buttload of fresh basil from the bush in my living room.
Topping: Typically prosciutto di parma, if I've got it. Also fond of onion and black olive.
Top with lots of (insert handwaggle) cheeeeeese! Preferably mozzarella with aged parmesan for that little extra kick.
Alternately, chicken breast with carrots on alfredo sauce.

Date: 2007-10-29 05:34 am (UTC)My first love, however, will always be deep dish with spinach. I grew up on the South Side of Chicago, about five blocks from a storefront pizzeria called Milano's. They do generic Italian takeout - meatball subs, calzones, spaghetti - but their crowning glory has always been the most exquisite deep dish you will find anywhere in Chicago. Yummy flaky crust (not too flaky or else it falls apart), tomato sauce, a solid inch of cheese and topping, and some more tomato sauce. It's the only pizza I'll eat with a fork and knife. When I come back home from college for Christmas, one of my first stops is Milano's.

Date: 2007-10-29 06:36 pm (UTC)There's one good pizza place near me, and a two-store chain about eight miles south and west. Back where I went to high school, one of my classmates manages the best pizza joint in town -- it used to be her father's until he retired.

Date: 2007-10-29 06:49 pm (UTC)For me? Mine get pretty strange, because most commercial places make the base sauce with bell peppers, to which I am deathly allergic. So I get white pizzas. I like 4-cheese with pecans, or in a more traditional establishment, no sauce with cheese, mushroom, onion and black olive. And if it's Aurelio's, and I can eat the sauce, straight double cheese!

Date: 2007-10-29 07:18 pm (UTC)I generally like the combination of ham, bacon, mushroom, and onion.
When I go to Pizza House in Ann Arbor, I often do a combination of spinach, mushroom, onion, and garlic.
When I was in India, the Domino's I went to had a "Meatza" that included barbecue chicken, spicy chicken, ground lamb, and onions.
