Sadness. Singer and actor Robert Goulet has passed away at the age of 73. He did a lot of cool stuff, and was one of those old-school talents who didn't take himself too seriously. I'll always remember him for, of all things, the voice of Jean-Tom in the Chuck Jones-written animated film Gay Purr-ee.

Ah, hells. There's a fine talent in both music and comedy gone to history.

How sad. I saw Goulet in "Camelot" beside Julie Andrews and Richard Burton when I was a kid.

While he became a bit of a joke in later years, there is no denying his signing talents.

Oh yeah, "Gay Purr-ee" is a terribly entertaining movie, can't recommend it enough to anyone who hasn't seen it.

I have Gay Puree on tape. It's a cool movie.

Celebrities always seen to die in threes. Jim Cummings, the reporter (who started his career in Grand Rapids at WOOD-TV), Porter Wagoner, and now Robert Goulet.

Sad thing, I wonder how many will only remember him from the Almonds commercial.

I'll remember him for Robert Goulet's Cajun Christmas near the beginning of Scrooged.

Yeah, pulmonary fibrosis, I saw his story on that on Inside Edition yesterday, they said only way to save him was lung transplant.

Damn shame.

omg, someone else remembers that movie?

That is so sad! But at least he had a long, full life. One can't ask for much more.

I always forget that's him in "Gay Purr-ee!" I always think of Judy Garland with that movie. Yay, Goulet!

I really don't like posting contradictory positions, but a number of years ago, when I used to have season theater tickets, I saw Goulet in a version of Carousel. It was one of the cheapest, lousy-looking road shows I'd ever seen. I'd seen better flats and backdrops in high school plays.

Worst of all was Goulet's performance as Billy Bigelow. Sloppy, almost casual. He took a slap at a woman he had just divorced, an actress famous for promoting General Foods International Coffees. He took a sip in one scene, made a face and said "French Cappu-CHEEEENOH????" It was cheap, petty, and dragged the audience out of the play. I suspect Goulet wasn't psychically in the play anyway; he was probably thinking of his relatives Old Granddad and Jim Beam.

Years ago, the Forbidden Broadway series had a Goulet imitator and a Jackie Mason imitator singing about the decline of Broadway shows, in a parody called "It's Almost Like Vegas In New York." That, sadly, was better than the live performance by the real Goulet.

I had such a crush on the man -- or at least his voice -- around 5th grade. I finally saw him as Emil in South Pacific about 23 years ago.

Me, I'll always remember him for his cameo in Weird Al's "You Don't Love Me Anymore" video, as the piano player who gets his eye poked out, his hand chopped off, and his foot in the bear trap.

RIP.

We will miss you Bob

Sad to lose such a wonderful Canadian talent. We just found out a few days ago and I have fond memories of seeing him in Camelot and his amazing voice and acting ability.
