Here in the U.S., it's Independence Day. DEFINITELY not to be confused with Independence Day. The celebrations usually involve burning meat, sucking down "cold ones", and blowing stuff up. And getting great discount prices on refrigerators.

What are your plans for the day? Mine involve a concert at 11:00 a.m., a Dr. Horrible panel at 2:00, hanging out with folks at the con, a quiet dinner, and then MC'ing a masquerade, followed by a little open filk (if I make it that long).

I am hitting thrift stores with my friend Noelle. At least one has a 50% everything sale. I expect to be sick and dizzy within hours and in need of a reviving milkshake.

I am kind of at a loss, since I'd been confused about which Saturday the Civil Air Patrol SAREX was going to be on: it turns out to be NEXT weekend.

Maybe I can take my current quilting project over to Hancock's and search for some fabric for the edge binding. The main color of the top is a rather challenging olive-y green, and your normal tones of green bias tape DO NOT GO with it, and I don't really WANT to use black.

I may also order some more shoes from the J C Penney website. The black ones I ordered last week arrived Thursday, and fit just fine, and they have that same style in Faux Crocodile in black, and I DO need more than one pair of black shoes that look at least slightly more upscale than the black Nike joggers I found on special at Sears a while back. [The newly-ordered shoes were replacing a pair that was beginning to fall apart.]

Then, after suppertime the local SF group is having its normal First Saturday of the Month meeting, so that will put me back on schedule for the weekend.

Being the complete nutcases we are, we'll head down to the Mall for the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, then make our way to the U.S. Capitol for the National Symphony Orchestra concert and the fireworks.

I was up late until almost 2:30 last night because of an RPG game (which ended when one of the bad guys decided to self destruct). Not sure if I'm doing anything today. I might just rest and clean up the house. I thought about doing some grilling for the holiday but that would mean going outside.

I'm supposed to be going to the fair to see fireworks with my brother and his kids... but if it doesn't stop raining I may have to settle for watching "1776" with my 14 year old nephew (the 12 year old Does Not Like Musicals!)

There will also be a ceremonial reading of the Declaration (by above 14 year old) and a memorial reading of the speech my late grandfather wrote about the importance of Our Flag.

Giants-Astros at AT&T Park. Beautiful day for baseball, meeting up with a big group fo people, and because the Giants normally have a moment on July 4th games where they acknowledge veterans, I'm forgoing my usual Giants shirt for an Infantry design (http://www.uscav.com/Productinfo.aspx?productID=6658&TabID=1&CatID=40).

Should be a good game, we have Tim Lincecum (reigning NL Cy Young winner) against Russ Ortiz, who was the starting pitcher for the G-men in the infamous Game 6 of the 2002 World Series.

It's also my 43rd birthday.

A one that is not cold is scarcely a one at all.

I'm not sure we're doing anything. Except my MIL made me jello jigglers with strawberries skewered to them with flag toothpicks.

I'm staunchly in favor of the right to burn the flag. But I feel weird about dumping these in the trash. Suggestions?

Wow, your day sounds like fun - especially the Dr. Horrible panel!

I'm spending a little quality time at my mom's, and trying to stay out of the rain. Sounds like a good enough plan...

Let's see: we're having people over tonight for a party involving.... wait for it... burning meat, sucking down cold b00zah0l, and watching things blow up over the lake down the hill.

There will not, however, be any discount refrigerators. ;)

Enjoy the con!

Plans are to take the kids to see fireworks tonight. We took Spot when she was a baby but I'm sure she doesn't remember. This will be the first time for Stripe and Fluffy. It should be awesome, but I'm hoping they don't get scared.

My plans are to surf the net a bit while my wife naps, watch while she plays more online poker later when she wakes up, have a pb&j sandwich for lunch (it's a bit of a splurge) and watch what little there is on tv.

Drove out toward Mt. Hood, regenerated the check engine light from last week when the code disappeared before the dealer could download it to get warranty approval, then took car to dealer and left it to be confirmed Monday. If the warranty work is approved, I've asked them to notify Enterprise with a purchase order number for the rental I got.

Unfortunately, today the dealership told me that not only doesn't the warranty cover rentals (acceptable) but that they only offer one day.

I'm going to talk to them again tomorrow about this.
