I felt the same way, then I remembered something important.
No matter how messed up our government gets, ultimately they can be voted out of office because the founding fathers did a genius thing. They put things into our hands. We the People. Its one of the most important concepts ever put into practice as means of governance. Even if we disagree on the ultimate solutions to things, we can still get behind the concept and practice of We the People.
That is, indeed, the most important concept -- and the one that politicians on both sides seem to forget first. Government under our system is, simply, us, doing collectively what we cannot do individually.
My faith in the "average muggle" is pretty weak right now.
I try and get people around to pay attention but when it comes down to it all they seem to care about is "bread and circuses" issues. :-(
I'm honestly hoping that there is some serious tanking of things to get people motivated again. Sure if the economy or something hits people hard there will be problems but it at least might get people to _see_ that there's problems. Regardless we need something to wake up the sheeple.
I'm gonna get off my soap box now... ;-)
