Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] meadbh7 for aiming us to The Judgment of Paris, a collection of eye-scorchingly hot plus-size models.

Hm... One of the women they hold up to be the epitome of plus-size beauty weighed just a bit under what I do currently at her heaviest. I've never thought of myself as anything but thin. I suppose height is a factor, though. Still, it doesn't change my opinion of myself. I don't care if I'm not a twig. Life's too short to eat rabbit food. :P

Nice pictures, rather creepy commentary. I sense in there what Amanda Marcotte calls a Nice Guy™.

On this site (disappointingly), plus size seems to indicate size 14, not size 24.

Well, there's one girl who's an 18/20. That's something.

Yeah. Hence my above comment. I'm about a size 14. Like maiac said above, it seems they're using "plus size" as code for "doesn't have an eating disorder."

In the modeling industry, that's true. I believe a 12 is the beginning of 'plus sized model'.

I'd like the site more if they didn't have those gawd-awful backgrounds

What interested me was the comment about the gypsy/peasant look being "resented and suppressed by the elite despite its popularity with the people". What I saw was that the look was deliberately turned into Skankville -- painted-on and transparent, and then aimed at teenagers. I'd happily wear gypsy tops and dresses, but not if I'm going to need multiple layers underneath to prevent being hauled in for indecent exposure!
