All good wishes for a speedy recovery to figure skating legend Dorothy Hamill, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

There is an interesting point of this. Filling for her on "Broadway On Ice" while she undergoes treatment will be... Brian Boitano.

Now, I know that many of you think this may be the ultimate answer to the question of "What Would Brian Boitano Do?" But....

I actually just saw both of them skate last month (if you follow skating at all, it was the special that was on NBC on the 22nd). From a purely technical standpoint, he's the better skater - 20 years after winning his medal, and he's still landing jump combinations. (The only one of the "name" skaters on the bill to do so - I think she did one jump in each of her two numbers; Viktor Petrenko did a couple in each of his, but none in combination).

Last week, I saw an interview with Betty White and she was commenting that she has found slash-fiction (she didn't use the term) about her Golden Girls' character and Bea Arthur's.

My first thought was that Brian Boitano would look ridiculous with a Dorothy Hamill hairdo.

My second, when you mentioned slashfic, was that "The Battle of the Brians" has a different meaning for some people. Ahem.

Since Dorothy was, AFAIK, always a solo skater, there's nothing slashy about Brian Boitano taking her place in the show. And I'd be thrilled to see either of them perform.

However, having seen a live skating show, I'd rather stay home and see it on TV. The cameras have a better view than even the best seat.
