Hahhhhhh.

Even though my apartment is a cruddy little place that I have to get out of... by damn, it's mine. And I'm finally back in it. I've got to unpack the van, but that's okay. I'm here. Feels good.

I will have to tell you all about the trip over the next few days. It might be kinda bits and pieces. Briefly, some months ago Les decided that my idea of getting out of Michigan in February was a really good one, and she booked a Caribbean cruise -- nothing extravagant, just sun and fun and Not Michigan In February. Thing is, it costs about 85-90% of the two-person fare to go alone, so she offered me space if I just made up that difference.

Oh yeah.

Aaaaaaand we stopped for a couple of days at Dizzy Whirl before we got to the ship. So I have seen the new Haunted Mansion and Spaceship Earth, not to mention Philharmagic.

But that's for tomorrow.

Any big trips you have planned for this year? Conventions count.

As it turns out, my big vacation plan is a cruise that my grandmother wants to take the family on later this year, so I'm very curious which line you were on, and what you thought of it.

Last summer we drove from our place in southern MA down the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway, just me, my husband, our son, and our camping gear in our VW diesel bug. This summer we're pondering doing a similar sort of trip, but through upstate New York and into Amish Ohio.

Ooooh, that sounds wonderful! I look forward to the travelogue :)

I'm trying to figure out how I can fit in going to Europe again to see my family and a few conventions I want to go to. Speaking of, I can hardly wait for Millenicon. Yay!

Nothing planned for this year but I just booked my room for the 2009 NORTH AMERICAN DISCWORLD CONVENTION IN PHOENIX! ALL FOUR NIGHTS, BABY!

(It's a year and a half away, and I'm this excited. I need to start working on my costumes.)

No major travel until I find out when I get my vacation time.

I am a guest at Mid-South Con (http://www.midsouthcon.org/), here in Memphis. But I'm "local talent." (I'm also up for the Darrell Award seven times. And no, I didn't nominate myself, I just passed along the stories upon request)

TOMORROW?!? I need a Spaceship Review NOW!

As to trips, first weekend of March we'll be out on LA for a long weekend. We'll be doing an afternoon and evening at Disneyland (we were just there in September so we'll just do our FACS and have dinner... perhaps Blue Bayou)

I'm going to more cons this year than I have in a while, but I'll just list the two big trips.

In June, I'm driving from Michigan to New Jersey for Contata, then staying with my brother and sister-in-law for a few days, then stopping in Pittsburgh on the way back to work at Anthrocon.

In August, Sharon and I are going to Denver, taking my mother with us. My brother and sister-in-law are also flying in from New Jersey, so we can be together for my mother's 85th birthday. (My sister already lives in Denver.) After that, we'll settle in to Worldcon for the rest of the week.

Next year, we don't know yet whether we're going to go to Montreal, or do a non-fannish trip.

Mavencon, Marcon, DragonCon, Motor City Comicon, and probably Myrtle Beach. Might be some incidental road trips scattered in there, maybe a trip to Kansas City to see friends.

Nothing currently planned; will probably be in San Diego in November for the professional conference I've gone to the past fourteen years. I might make it to Marscon at month-end, depending on finances (it's local but I don't want to drive it three days running and can't afford a hotel room; if I do go, I'll probably volunteer for Ops/Security). Beyond that? No clue. Might have a day-trip or two for interviews in Davis CA and Boston MA, but that's very much a maybe. :/

This year, I will visit Houston for Memorial Day, then take road trips to GenCon and Dragon*Con, a flight to the L.A. area to visit my favorite sushi chef, friends, and some family around Veteran's Day, and spend a week in Seattle visiting more family for Thanksgiving.

No major travel planned, though one of my friends is nagging me to go to the WorldCon in Denver. Really, though, going to NASFiC last year and then the sudden jaunt up to the PNW after my aunt passed - that did a number on our finances, so I really can't make those kinds of plans right now.

A Caribbean cruise? More pirate songs!

I'll be going to FilkONtario for the first time ever, and back to Toronto a few weeks later for my traditional U.S. Memorial Day visit there. I don't have any other plans yet.

I'm not making any plans to go to D.C. next January and party like it's 1993, because I don't want to jinx it.

Nothing major.

I'll be making a couple of trips to Buffalo to see my parents this year. They're not in good health, and I'm not sure how much time they have left here.

I'm also hoping to make it to Starwood this summer. There's an outside chance of staffing a New Warrior Training Adventure. Maybe I'll make OVFF, but don't expect me until you see me there.

This September I'm probably going to be a panelist at Conjecture (http://2008.conjecture.org/index.php) so that's our big trip this time around. The theme is military SF/F, I think I'm a good fit. :) Just down to San Diego (about 400 miles) but the last time I was there was for my training with PODS. Didn't have time for anything fun on that trip.

In 2009, [livejournal.com profile] kshandra and I plan on making Anticipation (http://www.anticipationsf.ca/English/Home). We have a few friends in upstate New York and Montreal to make the trip easier.

After that? We need to start figuring out what we're doing for our 20th Anniversary. GAH!

Let's see... MarsCon extended weekend in 2 weeks, PenguiCon extended weekend 6 weeks after that, and 6 day trip over Labor Day weekend for Dragon*Con. Other than that, I need to plan more vacation time, and this year include some trips. I am bad at taking time off when it is not for cons, and got burnt out last year.

Penguicon, Origins, and Dragon*Con are sure bets. (Also RavenCon and Balticon, but those are practically in the backyard)

Probably a few more cons as dates solidify, invites come in, and I accumulate enough CTO (Certified Time Off) hours to actually go to them.

Rob's got those and three more between now and the end of the summer. But he can do that because he doesn't have to worry about CTO hours.

This is the year Janice and I finally move to the farm in Missouri - YAY!

That means a little less travel, Mid-South con is already reserved, Then maybe Duckon, Denvention is booked - possibly a few extra days to do the steam train in Durango on that trip, then Windycon since we have a pile of Ringo books to get signed and I hope to have the winning story this year (got honorable mention last year).

Conglom (tho that hardly counts 'cause I LIVE in Louisville), Marcon, KY Highland Renaissance Faire (maybe an hour's drive, tops), and my annual pilgrimage back home to Syracuse and the Sterling Renaissance Faire. That's basically my trip schedule every year, tho if I can ever get out of retail and get my weekends back, I might join the cast of KYHRF. Mebbe. Tho after how the present cast treated a friend of mine...I'm not sure. Too much politics, when really all I wanna do is wear my garb and run around and play. I can do that without being on cast. Especially when the Sterling Cast all but treat me as one of their own, anyway.
There's way too many conventions I want to go to. My lotto dream is basically quit work and just tour the con and faire circuits, 'cause there's always something SOMEwhere that i'd really like to go to given the time and means.

Trips? TRIPS?!?!?!?!

Between their planned fun cons my inlaws have a UU church con in Orlando this summer, so they decided we all need to go to disney world. SO... we are road tripping it to Orlando in two mini vans. This is going to be dreadfully insane. My Two children, one 11 one 7, the two of my husbands mom and step dad, and his two siblings and their significant others if they have them at the time. At Least eight of us, if not ten.

Well, since I'm in the hole for my car, and prices for everything else have skyrocketed (food, gas, insurance) there'll be no vacations for me unless I get a great big raise, or a nice windfall of some sort. So, no conventions or big trips.

I do have two events I go to every year as part of my work- the National Conference of State Legislatures annual convention and the tech seminar. The big convention is in New Orleans this year, and the smaller tech seminar is in Louisville, KY. So, those are my trips. At least they get me out of the house, and it's cool meeting my legislative friends (a very geeky bunch) each year. Sort of like a con- for government geeks!

I miss SF cons, though. Stupid tight budget...

We're running kittencon, of course, the first weekend in April (and you're all invited). All five of us should be at DuckCon, as always. Kitten and I will be at Worldcon in Denver in August, but will be running on a tight budget.

Anywhere else I go this year will have to fall under two of Michael Longcor's four professional criteria: Fun, Easy, Profitable or Advancing my career.

You know, actually, as long as I was mentioning Worldcon...we currently are looking for roommates for that con. The hotels are $159-179 for a quad and kitten and I would be willing to have two more people share ours. The rooms are closing out pretty fast, so we'd need to know in the next week or so. We're currently planning on arriving on Wednesday and leaving either Sunday night or Monday morning, depending on when our roomates would want to leave.

Go ahead and send me a /msg on LJ, if you're interested.
