As of a few minutes ago, a barrel of oil was over $106.00.

Here's a little site which helps put our national problem in some perspective, and which will also help you find local gas prices: Gas Buddy.

What are prices out your way? The other day, I was looking at $3.16, and that doesn't seem to have changed... yet.

The lowest price in San Diego county this morning is 3.31/gallon. Highest being reported is 3.93.

They've literally got us over a barrel out here - we're at the end of a single pipeline and they can charge us whatever they want to.

I always thought a great guerilla campaign would be to put stickers that say "So... War paying for itself, yet?" on gas tanks near where the prices are displayed.

( Home of the "Well, that memoir about me being half Native American and in gang in a ghetto? Not so true" writer's movement ) It was $3.47 for the cheap stuff, $3.57 for the mid grade, and $3.67 for the high end. Mind you, this was at one of the down town stations which are pricier.

But Costco and Arco usually have the lowest prices, and they're generally within $0.15, so I'm guessing about $3.20 or so there. And I thought filling up at $2 a gallon hurt.

At most stations in my part of town, $3.05.

Highest reported, $3.35.

The price here in Toronto is $1.03 a litre right now. Not sure what that converts into gallons.

That'd be roughly $4.00/gallon (a litre is about the same as a quart).

Check out the BP at Washtenaw and (I think) Golfside. There are also two BPs on Washtenaw in Ypsi and only about a block apart in the vincinity of the DQ, and one is often quite cheap.

*ponders changing her location on her LJ profile before people come after her for having access to "cheap" gas* :P

I live in a town that used to have some of the best gas prices in the state (you know, by 5-10 cents), and was often commuting through another. That's changed, alas, and now we're one of the higher places in the state, but I do at least get to drive through those slightly better areas on a semi-regular basis. Of course, the drive costs me about 25-30 dollars a trip...

grr.

$3.05ish in my area.

Just over 4 years ago I left a job doing field IT support. The pay was good, but I drove my own car 1-3000 miles per month (in addition to personal mileage) in exchange for a mileage reimbursement. Boy am I glad I'm out of that mess.

The pity of it is that if I could make my schedule work around it there's a bus that would run from a spot about 3 miles from my doorstep right next to the building I work in downtown. Unfortunately I can't quite make my schedule fit that, not without seriously inconveniencing some of my coworkers.

That map fascinates the hell out of me. Cheapest gas I ever saw in my life was in Wyoming, which makes sense. But why my parents in New Jersey have such (comparatively) cheap gas, when it's full-serve by law, and I'm sitting out here next to Wyoming with $3.15 a gallon self-serve, I don't quite get.

$2.91 on my way to work today.

When oil first went over $60, I predicted that the economy would melt down somewhere between $60 and $100. I don't really understand why it hasn't happened yet, but one thing that I was not expecting was that the increasing oil price would not be fully passed on to the retail price of fuel. Nobody but oil companies actually buys barrels of oil; what matters is the price of refined products. If gas goes to $5/gallon (which is where I thought it would be, back when oil was under $60, if oil should go to $105), consumers are really going to be squeezed. If diesel goes to $5 a gallon, consumer inflation will spike, and if the Fed tries to control the inflation by raising interest rates, it will be like 1932. But if the oil companies remain content to make so much money on the crude end of the business that they're willing to give up their profit on turning it into fuel, we can continue to muddle through until the foreigners we've mortgaged our country to so we could have our SUVs seriously start calling in their loans.

(Invariably the people who whine the loudest are the hausfraus tanking up their goddamn Hummers and Ford Mastodons - which they need SO much to ferry Assleigh and Diffident to soccer. Er, what part of 3 gallons/mile didn't you get when you bought that monster?)

Fortunately I live in an area with good public transport, and it's flat so I can ride my bike to get a few groceries.

$3.16-ish here too, though we have remarkable variations (from 3.12 to about 3.21) thanks to the level of sprawl in the Tampa Bay area.

However, that's not entirely why I'm commenting. I'm mainly commenting because when I saw "$3.16" my very first thought was:

"Yeah? Well, ExxonMobil 3:16 says 'Gimme your damn wallet.'"

Where I'm from, it's >$3.43. What I expect during the next Presidential term is some form of relief; either approving non-petrolium fueled vehicles (such as vehicles powered electrically, hydrogen, or the 'air car', I was informed that current DOT regulations state that the vehicle must be primarily powered on Petrol to be approved for street use), the other being controlling the oil prices... because OPEC is using Iraq as an excuse that they can't produce enough oil to meet demand (or whatever), and we won't be able to stay under $4/gal in the US for long. What many people fail to realize is that while OPEC has control of Iraq's oil (where previously it was under UN control for the oil-for-food program), it's an additional source of oil on the marketplace. If anything, prices should've dropped (or production elsewhere should've slowed down) when their oil went to market.

If we were like some European countries where an auto isn't a necessity, great. But we're too spread out for that. Anyway, that's all my opinion of that...
