[livejournal.com profile] markbernstein linked up to the final trailer for the new Disney/Pixar film Wall•E, and the sumbitch is as spoilery as you can possibly get. The little teaser is indeed a teaser, and doesn't hint at anything about the full film.

It looks beyond fantastic.

And I'm actually pissed off at D/P for putting as much as they did in the trailer.

I'm not kidding. I wish I could un-watch it. If you are at all interested in the film, and you don't want to have it just spoiled to hell, DON'T WATCH THE WALL•E TRAILER.

You don't show the link yourself. You must be serious.

Is this the same as the one in the theatres a few months ago? Because I've seen that.

The little teeny teaser with the robot making some design on the desert floor? Nope. This is way different, with much more content.

I believe I will take your counsel and not spoil the film then. Which is really unusual for me, I normally want to Know All.

Well, it looks amazing, as usual. And I like the idea of robots that are almost entirely not humaniform. But I'm still not sold on Wall*E himself. Cute robots don't usually do it for me.

But it's Pixar. Do we need to say anything more?

Sorry, m'friend, but I'm just not with you on this one. Yes, there were characters and settings we hadn't seen before. But I still don't think I know any major plot twists that weren't already fairly obvious from the teaser. And this is still only two minutes of content out of ninety.

Maybe I'm owslay on the takeupay, but I found the trailer to be intriguing without being spoilery. It showed me a whole bunch of scenes and I could sorta kinda guess how they fit together, but I'm not at sure of it and I really want to see the movie to see how these scenes form a coherent whole. If asked, I could probably write a plot summary, but I'm willing to bet I'll be surprised by the actual film.

As a general rule I believe they should outlaw any trailer that shows scenes past the halfway point of the movie. However, I don't think the new trailer is especially spoileriffic, especially when you consider some of the grumbling going around. It seems many people liked the robot and all, but weren't up to paying big bucks to see a movie that takes place entirely on a garbage-covered Earth. This was Disney/Pixar's way of showing them that there's more than huge mounds of trash.

Still, I don't think they needed to show this much. I'm willing to bet that this preview was from Disney entirely, because they crave a powerful opening week to brag about. Never mind that even with the old previews Wall-E would probably still out-gross the last five Disney movies combined, they have to have that record-breaking first week or they'll consider it a failure.

But this is completely safe and unspoilery. And fun!

Did anyone else actually watch the trailer, and think of Short Circuit?

Yes, yes I did. I still cannot bore out the images of Steve Gutenburg. *shudder*

I thought of Short Circuit when I saw the still poster, before the moving trailer. Then the trailer went in a different direction (good!).

Nobody gets the reference anymore when I say, "Reassemble, Stephanie!"

I had the plot spoiled for me (intentionally) by Ain't It Cool News months ago, and all I can say is if things go as planned this film will be *amazing*! It's something that people will be talking about for quite a while. Sure, the new trailer gives away more than the first ones, but I don't think it gives away too much (tho knowing what's to come my judgment may be off).

All I'll say about Wall*E without giving anything away is that like most Pixar movies, they make them for adults as well as kids, and each group gets a different message and meaning out of it. Ratatoulle was IMO geared more for adults than kids, and Wall*E will I think be even more in that camp.

I can't wait to see it.

If you thought the new trailer spoiled the plot, you don't even KNOW what the plot is.

If you don't wish to be spoiled, DO NOT CLICK HERE:

I think it's gonna be an incredible movie, but honestly, based on the subject matter beneath the "cute lil' robot" surface and the general lack of dialogue, I think it'll be Pixar's first theatrical flop (slash DVD cult classic, natch). The last Disney animated film to take place in space and sport a dialogue-less trailer was Treasure Planet, and "Wall-E" has the handicap of being a space movie that makes the audience THINK - remember, Star Wars was a monster hit, but Gattaca, Serenity, Contact and HGTTG were considered flops.

But maybe I'm wrong. I doubted Ratatouille and Nemo, too.
