I just saw this news, and am very sad. Would that we had his like in the Senate today.

CNN has a better description of Sen. Metzenbaum's career than the Columbus Disgust obituary that you linked, which doesn't surprise me considering how conservative the Columbus newspaper is.

That's why I did the Wikipedia link. I linked to the Columbus paper because it was his home base (although not where he's lived for awhile), and I wanted the local take on him. That CNN write-up is very good, though.

It just occurred to me to check the Cleveland Plain Dealer, since that's more his home base than Columbus.

I met him in 1985 at a dinner honoring my grandfather and he was old THEN! :D

He was a super nice guy with lots of life and a quirky sense of humor.
