Well, I hope to have my Zoom H4 get the whole thing on audio, but I wouldn't have the rights to do anything with the other folks' concerts -- it would just be for my own enjoyment and to get them the files. Dunno about anything else.

Interesting the way your lj handle becomes a big part of your name in the poster. I haven't seen that before.

Yet whiskeyina is not an lj member (or so lj claims). Different social networking site? A google search turns up someone using that name at Myspace and Blogspot. The Myspace one has a gig at Eschacon 08; bingo!

Is including a reference to a net presence (without being so gauche as to actually give the url) becoming a common thing in posters for cons and performances?

I don't actually think it's gauche myself; I was just trying to be funny.

I have noticed that part of the cachet of the slang / abbreviations used in some fields of popular culture seems to be that you know what it means without being told. If you have to actually ask "pwned? What's pwned?" you're demonstrating you're not part of the culture.

I was leaping to the conclusion that people this poster is intended for are just supposed to *know* that filkertom is on lj and whiskeyina is on myspace, and that giving the actual complete urls would imply that the viewer was uncool. Which would be gauche.

Since it sounds like the poster is associated with a con that's associated with a blog, it may be intended for blog readers who already know who filkertom and whiskeyina are from reading their posts.

Bingo, and "filkertom" is the name I've seen Tom posting as on other site. The site in question here is presumably Eschaton, the blog around which Eschacon is centered, and I've seen him on DailyKos as well.

Nothing so subtle as that. My online handle pretty much everywhere, including on Atrios' blog Eschaton, is "filkertom". I've been hanging out there for a little over five years -- in fact, almost precisely in line with the date of Colin Powell's dog-and-pony show at the UN.

I don't know much about Eschacon, but the big political con (that I'm aware of) is Netroots Nation (http://www.yearlykosconvention.org/), formerly YearlyKos. This year it's in Austin in July. It's in a different city every year - I think previous locations were Chicago and Denver, though I may be misremembering.
