The most pertinent one, of course, is Free Comic Book Day.

And rhythminmind.net/signaltonoize.com has some professional-level compressors you might like.

And, because everyone was apparently on vacation on International Pixel-Stained Technopeasant Day (I got at least a half-dozen plaintive Can't I Still Get Them? messages), I'll be repeating my offering on Monday and Tuesday. Can't say you weren't warned. :) And I might even have a new/old song as well.

Anything cool and free you've found lately?

I got it pulled, will try it today.

BTW - no Comic Genesis "Generations" FCBD book this year. Diamond doesn't like fresh new talent.

Now that you mention it...I just bought a new flash drive (2 meg for $17 from the newly-taken-over CompUSA, which seems to be a real low-ball outfit for now). I'd heard about "portable" apps that will run off flash drives, without being installed on machines. Now I had the means to play with them.

Perhaps you may have heard of Celtx, which writes and formats screenplays, stage plays and movie scripts. It's available at http://www.celtx.com and (while it takes a bit to learn) it does a great job for free. Even produces PDF's of your scripts.

There is now a portable version someone worked up, at http://sourceforge.net/projects/portable-celtx/ and I stuck it on the drive. About 35 MB. Works great. I was able to work on an audio play on a machine at work without problems. Oh, and of course, both standard and portable Celtx have versions for Mac OS X and Windows from XP up. (Although you still have to use the right version for the computer you're using.)

By the way, no luck finding Part 1 of the Orlando OASIS show. Still looking, of course. Did you get the Part 2 disks?

They saw you comming if you paid $17 for 2gig. Microcenter sells 4gb for $17. 2gb is $10. They also have a lot of Compusa cards available. (I grabbed a PCI firewire/usb 2 card for $15 about 2 weeks ago.)

There is no Micro Center in Florida that I know of. $17 is fantastic for a 2 gig flash drive here; Office Depot and OfficeMax can't touch that price. Besides, I wanted to see how CompUSA is doing, now that they've been bought out by Tiger Direct. (The store looked kinda dumpy; prices were lower, but not a lot of stuff on the shelves. Then, maybe they haven't restocked; there was a lot of stuff still in boxes. We'll see.)

Besides, I am entering a week of credit-card-only living, and I wanted to treat myself. The flash drive was the only thing I could treat myself with in that store. (Well, I also got some computer screws, which are damn near impossible to get since the bi-monthly computer show-and-sale went bust here.)
