Thanks so much for telling me about this, [livejournal.com profile] huskiebear. No, really, actually, thanks. Looks cool. Out on DVD this Tuesday. Likely not work safe, definitely not kid safe.

If you were to write/direct a horror film, what would your subject be?

What does it say that I know which strip that is without actually having to go look? (Poor Felix.)

Oh, like you're the ONLY one in THIS crowd that started humming it when you saw the movie premise!

I wouldn't presume to think I was the ONLY one. But for the record, I didn't hum it. I sang it, full voice. Luckily I was home alone at the time.

You DO realize, that as soon as I clicked on it, the ad for the Columbus showing of the Broadway touring "Lion King" came on the television?

I found myself singing that too. I couldn't remember where I'd seen it at first but I did sing it.

Considering that it's the first thing that I thought of as well ... it shows you to be an individual of fine discriminating taste. Yeah, that's it.

Bite Back

Mine would start out with the standard format of teens out camping in the woods trying to evade monsters, in this case, vampires. Then, the full moon hits, and the kids turn into were-wolves, and the tables turn. _Once_In_a_Blue_Moon_.

Vampires vs. Werewolves has already been done with Underworld, but I like your version better.

A schizophrenic comes across the typical Dark Conspiracy (vampires, demons, Jehovah's Witnesses, whatever) and tries to warn the world.

The problem is, he's crazy. Everyone knows that, and what happens to him and those around them have rational, if far-fetched explanations.

I'd leave the question of the reality of my protagonist's antagonists up in the air. Maybe a hint that he wasn't seeing things (for once.)

No gore, little monsters jumping out of the closet, but the real horror of knowing evil is all around and not being able to convince anyone.

Thank you.

I've done a script treatment for a film version of Queensrÿche's Operation: Mindcrime that does much the same thing. The viewer is left wondering if the interactions with Dr. X and Mary really happened, or if they and the killing orders were all a drug-induced fantasy.

It would have to be CGI. Very long scenes where things slowly change from the mundane to madness so slowly you wonder if you imagine it. All done in a style as realistic as possible. The kind of thing you walk out of a theater and look at people strangely for a while and want to cuddle up to you sweetheart - but you're afraid to go to sleep.

"Bad Acid Trip" would probably be the best description of the genre.

Well there was a movie called Shrooms (http://www.shroomsthemovie.com/) that came out recently. A Bunch of college students find some mushrooms in the woods, and are having a bad trip while a psycho killer is busy chopping them up.

That looks great!

Kind of reminds me of a German movie Troma picked up years ago called Killer Condom. Absolutely fantastic movie, and not nearly as campy as you might expect. Although, yeah, condoms with teeth crawling around biting off things, pretty campy. But still, great movie.

There is an American Indian legend along the same lines. In fact Pendleton wool makes a legendary Coyote Women blanket. They may excellent wool blankets, but I have never had the urge to buy that particular blanket.

One thing the trailer implied that the movie writers either didn't know or forgot to put in:

No male gynecologist is permitted to be alone in a room with a female patient, especially one that young. A female nurse or other assistant has to be in there also, especially during the actual examination.

And of course, if he'd used the speculum BEFORE the manual examination, he'd have saved himself a world of hurt. (And saved us from a horror movie scene, but that's an aside.)

I can recommend this: http://www.cthulhulives.org/cocmovie/index.html It's done as a silent movie, as if it was made when the book came out, but still it's well done.

"If you don't let me in, I will turn you into a demon half-face waitress with a crush on her boss, and i'll make it so you've been that from the beginning of time to now and you'll never ever know if you were anything else and it will itch inside your head worse than little bugses."
Delirium, in Brief Lives, Sandman Vol. 7

Is just about the most horrific thing I think I've ever read, but I have no idea how you'd put it on film. (For those without the context, these things are already true about the person to whom Delirium is speaking, draw your own conclusions from there.)

My subject of a horror film would revolve around something kinda old school. Keep the big bad ambiguous so the audience is never really sure what's going on. I'd for sure reach into the folklore of the deep south and cajun country for it though. Some of the old legends from around there would be terrifying if done right in the modern world. After all, who takes legends seriously anymore?

I tried writing a couple horror stories, they kept turning into comedy. Everybody who red the rough drafts were giggling too much to be frightened.
