I have heard Garrison Keillor use the word "suckfest" on national radio. :)

What's your favorite regular part of A Prairie Home Companion? I love the Guy Noir stuff in small doses, a lot of the fake ads (the Ketchup Council stuff is amazingly fun and disturbing), and any version of "Powder Milk". And when Robin and Linda Williams show up as "Mavis and Marvin Smiley", hawking a new bluegrass album, it's freakin' gold.

I like the annual joke show, and terribly miss Raw Bits.

Me too! Haven't heard from Bertha's Kitty Cat Boutique in a while, either. (Still have my sweatshirt, but sadly it doesn't fit anymore.)

Gawd, Bertha's Kitty Boutique, the Fearmonger shop.... loved all that stuff. There is an entire radio play Les and I wrote years ago, WTMI, and we had lots of fake commercials a la PHC.

I still love Keillor's monologues and his tales of the Norwegian bachelor farmers, the Pretty Good Grocery, the Lutheran potlucks and so on. My DH and I saw PHC at the Chicago Theater in October 1986, right after we got married, and it was a real treasure in person.

I don't know about regularly occurring, but I've been glad to hear GK becoming more open and pointed with his politics, even though I deplore the events necessary to make such a gentleman take the gloves off.

Having had the chance to share the stage both with Andy Stein (Lead fiddle in Guy's All Star Shoe Band) and Butch Thompson (house pianist for many years) I'd have to say that the musical focus, especially in the vein of Joe Venuti, is my favorite part.

I love the joke show too. And I'm partial to the English major bits and the Lake Woebegone stuff (because my relatives are Norwegian Lutherans from Minnesota....)

I like the opening song, and I like the rubarb pie "commercials." I usually enjoy at least some of the guest musician stuff, and the way the Garrison ends up doing a duet with somebody.

I think the best part of any PHC show is when Garrison just gets off and running on a monologue, like the Lake Wobegon bits or the Be-Bop-A-Lu-Bop Rhubarb Pie spots. And the eclectic selection of musical guests is great; Marcia Ball, one of my faves from back home in N'Awlins, was on recently.

I think I kind of don't get it. I never know if I should be laughing or not. Must be too subtle for me.

My very favorite part is Garrison Keillor telling a Lake Wobegon story. He's one of the best storytellers I've ever heard, and even if he wasn't, I've had a crush on his voice for ages.

I love Guy Noir, Lake Wobegon, the bits where they try to throw off the sound-effects guy, and all of the music. The Williams's are terrific - I keep meaning to write a filk-circle parody of "Old Plank Road" (http://www.soundtrackslyrics.com/mnopq/Prairie-Home-Companion.html#11) but I never seem to get around to it.

It's hard to pick a favorite: as a former English Major, I heartily approve of the Professional Organization of English Majors, and the librarian stories. I'm also partial to the Ketchup Advisory Board spots, and the stories from Lake Wobegon, and the sound effects guy, and I'm even fond of Dusty and Lefty and Guy Noir. I even have a ghost of a memory of Mournful Oatmeal commercials ("Calvinism in a box"), but it's been a long, long time since I've heard that one.

Many of the previously mentioned bits, plus the American Duct Tape Council.

I also loved The Young Lutheran's Guide To The Orchestra (http://www.amazon.com/Young-Lutherans-Guide-Orchestra/dp/B000S529JC).

PHC was a life saver form me when I lived with my Fundamentalist step-mom. Cutting humor under a veneer of old-fashioned values.

I enjoy just about everything about the show. I podcast the monologues if I miss them.

The best thing that ever happens on the show is when Garrison, the band, and the musical guest of the week manage to let their hair and their egos down for a non-scripted, unplanned, unexpected blend of musical styles, and they get something that really works.
