Big honkin' argument elsewhere on this LJ about Obama making an obvious, harmless mistake, saying there are 57 states -- one for each Heinz flavor -- when we've got people saying this shit and meaning it:
Georgia Republican Party chairwoman Sue Everhart said Saturday that the party's presumed presidential nominee has a lot in common with Jesus Christ.

"John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross," Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. "He never denounced God, either."
He apparently died for our sins, however. Which, I'm pretty sure, makes him ineligible to run for office.

And what would you pray to St. McSame for?

John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross

*blink*
*blink blink*

It's rather gauche of me to point out that John McCain can't get his arms into that position, isn't it? I mean, aside from the whole not Jewish, not a carpenter, not the son of a god thing.

LOL. yeah i think comparing *yourself* to jesus is from chapter one of how to lose friends and alienate people. of course in the long run it didn't seem to hurt them...
Sean altman (Jewlicious) has a pretty funny song called "taller than jesus" based on john lennon's unfortunate comment. and sean is very tall, so he most certain is taller than Jesus.

When I think "forgiveness for those who trespass against us", the first name I think of is John McCain.

What is it with Republicans comparing their leaders to Jesus? McCain, Bush, Reagan, Nixon(!)...

I'd pray "Step aside and let the country heal. Just because it's nicknamed God's Own Party doesn't mean every candidate is a rebirth of Christ."

Simple. They claimed all rights and ownership on God. God didn't issue any formal statement of objection. So it's theirs to use as they wish. They don't even have to read the bible or anything because nobody ever checks.

Re Obama's tongue-slip: so Democrats have to be held to a higher standard of accuracy than Republicans. That's fair, I guess. And McCain can be compared to an agitator who sought to overthrow the established religious and political order. Like, say, a terrorist. Glad we've sorted that out.

I think there may actually be 57 contests (which is what I think Obama meant) when you include places like American Samoa, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, etc.

I think Chairwoman Sue Everhart has mixed up her Bible stories. It is Job who is famous for not renouncing God while he suffered. Jesus is famous for being God while he suffered.

I seem to recall Christ demanding to know why God had forsaken him, come to that.

That would be Eli, Eli lama sabacthani I believe. There's some deep study in that phrase. Anyway I do agree that McCain shouldn't be compared to Christ. It's a tad gouche in my opinion because if you're really living like Him you won't promote it the way that the Republicans do.

i pray to mcsame that he doesn't pick huckabee or romney, who are both extremist nuts and will end up in charge if mcsame does end up on a cross and ascending/ descending from this earthly plane during his tenure.

How about he dies for the sins of his campaign managers, who apparently have no problem hobnobbing with despots who keep torturers?

I would ask Jesus McChrist why he has advised the current president so badly. Every time Dubya talks to him, he does something dumber than the last time.

Soooo... she's saying that John McCain is like Jesus, only better?

Hokay.

Ya know, if God operated like these yokels think He does, there'd be a little spot of char of the floor where she used to be.
