There are times that I wish Joss wasn't so "Joss".

Yup.

Just once, Joss, something resembling a happy ending?

I thought it was horribly good; I really loved it!

I felt the pain of Dr. Horrible, acutely, and really had my reality undermined when I realized that this wasn't going to entirely be a complete comedy ... it was a comedic look at a comedic world in which a tragedy happens. It is the origin of a Super-Villain and it left me laughing and aching when it was done.

I really would like to see more in this world ... with a lot more music!

My favorite song had to be the end piece to Act II.

It certainly had the Joss touch. No one's happy as the curtain closes.

Neil Patrick Harris has certainly earned his reputation as an actor. He's finally managed to outgrow his child-star status. He emotes so well, and who knew he could sing?

On the subject of surprises, Nathan Fillion didn't surprise me one bit. I do wonder if there's any role the man can't play, though.

Felicia Day was the perfect Polly Pureheart. Taken in by the charm and the smarm. Doc was right; sometimes there's a third layer just like the first one.

I read in an interview with the writers that they felt there was more they could do with those characters. I certainly hope they get the chance. I don't want this to be the last we see of the Doctor.

Neil played in both "Rent" and "Sweeny Todd" in San Fransico several years ago.

That wasn't an ending, it was a cliffhanger.

I mean, c'mon, revivication rays are frigging freshmen level work for mad scientists!

Also, Captain Hammer is still alive. In therapy, but still alive. Bad, very bad to leave a nemisis alive like that.

I actually had an extensive and spirited discussion with Anne about this very point. Yes, of course, it's a cliffhanger. But, if Joss gets hit by a meteor tomorrow, it also is an ending. A pretty darn unhappy one -- Dr. Horrible gets everything he ever wanted, at the cost of the one thing he really wants, and he assumes the mantle of Mad Scientist and in private he's broken -- but an ending nonetheless.

Been alternately squeeing/wailing with my friends all day. I love the songs, Neil Patrick Harris is awesome as always and makes an adorable steampunkish villain, Nathan Fillion is a delightful asshole, and the ending sucker-punched me in the gut. [livejournal.com profile] conuly speculated that Joss must have gone through a series of bad breakups in his youth.

And oh oh oh I can't wait for the DVD, and I want more so badly, if only so I can ogle Neil Patrick Harris in that red and black outfit some more.

We can has full-length direct-to-dvd movie pleez?

I'm not really happy about the ending but the more I sit with it, the more I think it kind of works. It has that sort of prequel quality for me - how he lost the last vestiges of his humanity. And of course it let us actually see Bad Horse!

I truly loved the humor and the music. I do plan to get the DVD when it comes out.

It's a villain's origin story. I would've been a happy viewer if Dr. Horrible had decided to become more of an antihero ... but y'know, I'm not the storyteller here. And the ending's kind of growing on me. Like Spanish moss.

I love that it was a super villain story. Really a 'making of' story. I love the complete jack-assery of Hammer ("The hammer is my penis." That just killed me!). I even like the sad bits - but would it be a Joss story without the sad?

In short, LOVED it!

That was a happy ending!
At least for every geek who cringed as the Ubermenschen were destroyed by some incredibly stupid plot device (Moonraker I'm looking at YOU), who ever cheered for Maleficent, who ever yelled "Kill him now, reveal the evil plan later!", who ever wanted the hero and the girl to bite it so more super-villianry could flourish...

Ok, maybe that's just me.

Seriously, that was amazing and awesome. Joss is still a master of sound and silence and image.

Penny, sitting alone in the laundromat, with two fro-gurts.
Lowering the goggles.
Hammer being an ass, over and over and over, yet being applauded.
Bad Horse's chorus!

*still giddy*
Definitely a DVD I want.

Several funny lines, some of the songs were very catchy, however there's too much high-school-like drama about it (OMG I'm so scared to talk to her) and I don't even know where to start talking about the girl. I really wish she had gotten a clue before the end. *sigh*

You asked :)

Ah yes, there are quite a few people who are very annoyed that Joss "Feminist" Whedon resorted to using the Woman in Refrigerators trope to motivate the hero (or in this case the villain) of the story. Again. (See "Jenny Calendar" and "Tara".)

Loved Act I and II, great songs, great lines. Act III was... predictable Joss, and the songs not as strong IMO. It turned out how it had to, NPH losing the thing he thought he loved to get everything he really wanted. I do also wish she and the city had gotten more of a clue about what a jerk Captain TightpantsHammer was.

I'm glad we got to see the ELoE at the end, and I expect there'll be more.

I'm hoping if enough people buy the DVD, and the episodes on iTunes, Joss will come out with more. And I also hope his success motivates others to try the same format. If enough talented people say "Hey, let's put on a show!" then maybe some of them will do Last Hero on Earth. I really want to see that acted out.

Just remember, every time an episode of Dr. Horrible sells, a network executive gets an ulcer ;-)

I think this is a pretty great representation of what many of our fellow human beings experience. The death of love which brings nothing but numb.

I really enjoyed it. I thought Felicia and Neil's voices blended really well.

The musical had geekiness, romance, adventure, sci fi, darkness and light, despair, hope... It was a good watch for me!
