Congratulations to all the winners. I'm really pleased "Blink" won Best Dramatic (Short Form), and now I really do have to see Stardust, and John Scalzi got Best Fan Writer (but sympathy, hugs and Well Done to fellow nominee [livejournal.com profile] shsilver), and Brad Foster got Best Fan Artist, and a special big frickin' WHOO HOO! to our own [livejournal.com profile] matociquala, who won Best Short Story for "Tideline".

Your thoughts?

Thanks for the list. I'm so caught up in the Olympics, I forgot the Hugo Awards were last night.

Yes, you must see Stardust. I rarely go to the movies, but I did go to see Stardust after reading a few rave reviews in LJ. It's delightful.

"Stardust" is indeed an awesome movie. I wasn't too sure about it when I heard its description, but was pleasantly surprised multiple times while watching the film. It's definiately worth a watch.

Also, glad to hear the recouperation is going well! We missed you at InCon.

I'm saddened that World Enough and Time came in last in dramatic short form. I thought it was done very well.

I also think maybe it's time for us filkers to put forth an effort once again to get a "filk" award amongst the Hugos.

I couldn't help but wince when [livejournal.com profile] johnnyeponymous noted that he came in behind No Award in the Fanzine category....

Stardust is a nice little movie. You'll enjoy it. Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfieffer are both wonderful in it.

How big was Scalzi's margin of victory?

Unpublished, at least in the Hugo edition of the daily zine.

If you liked the Princess Bride, you'll enjoy Stardust. It has many amusing moments, and also makes your heart thrill. Pfieffer is deliciously evil.

A couple of comments:

The Hugo ceremony this year was one of the best I've been to. It moved well, (over in less than two hours), MoC Will McCarthy and others got a fair number of laughs, there were a lot of well-done thank you speeches, and of the three categories where I voted, two of them were won by my choice. :) My only disappointment was that, out of fourteen Hugos awarded, only five of the winners were there in person. (Though most absent winners sent prepared thank-yous to be read. The one for "Blink" was hilarious.)

At this year's WSFS Business Meeting, a proposal to add a Graphic Novel category passed. It needs to be ratified in Montreal to become permanent, but the Montreal committee has indicated that they'll use their discretionary category (each Worldcon is allowed one) to give a Graphic Novel award next year.

Nothing, however, as memorable as Neil Gaiman's acceptance speech.
