Wow. Oscar- and Grammy-award-winning singer/songwriter/composer/musical producer, not to mention movie and TV actor -- the Duke in Escape From New York, the voice of Chef on South Park -- and all-around Bad Mutha Shut Yo Mouf Isaac Hayes has passed away at the age of 65. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hughcasey and [livejournal.com profile] docwebster for the heads-up.

Sadly, you mentioned this and the first thought which came to mind was "So are these guys also automatically in the running for an Oscar 'cause their movie came out posthumously?".

oh wow, 65, didn't realise he was so young, relatively speaking of course. Thought he was a lot older, but still too young.

R.I.P Isaac Hayes A.K.A Chef!

I know Isaac Hayes for the voice of Chef on South Park, I also remember the soundtrack for Shaft. Yesterday Bernie Mac, now Isaac Hayes today. The random deaths are starting to get to close together if you ask me!

If you want to view my post (http://all-notions.com/blog/2008/08/10/isaac-hayes-dies/).

Cartoonist Keith Knight talked about going through his midlife crisis at the age of 30 -- which makes sense, he said, since African-American males have an average lifespan of 60 years.

I just wish the obits didn't keep backing him up on that one.

I keep thinking of the old saw that bad news comes in threes, and wondering who the third will be, superstitious me.

Ah another one of my favorite actors struck down.
The past few years seem to be pruning my tree of idols quite a bit, maybe I should start hating folks and they'll live longer. That or all my favorite people need plastic bubbles, armed entourages, constant medical screenings, and food testers. Hey someone get Samuel L. Jackson a safe room now please.
I'm glad Morgan Freeman pulled through and also happy that your recovering Tom. I won't say "it could be worse" because I'm sure the universe will prove me right.

And, he was apparently found next to a still-running treadmill, thus proving that fitness is no guarantee of long life.

This does NOT encourage me as I headed back to the gym for the first time in two years last month. The doctor finally cleared me to go for it after last year's spinal surgery.

As for Mr. Hayes -- he travels now in Bright Company (along with Mr. Mac), on a journey we can only imagine. May their journeys thrive.

Isaac Hayes was not one of my personal favorites, but he was undeniably a genius and a tremendous songwriter and musical innovator.

May both Mr. Hayes and Mr. Maccullough rest well. They were, ultimately, good men who did what they thought was right, and they each gave us a great deal of entertainment, each in his own way.
