Well, this works. McCain's lack of knowledge about the world will be offset by Palin's extensive travel to pretty much the entire globe; his lack of empathy with the common man will be made up for by Palin' long experience writing about and portraying common people in all walks of life; and his stiff, fake speech delivery will be neatly circumvented by Palin's decades of performance in film and television.

-- what's that? That's not who McCain picked? He picked Sarah Palin, who's only been governor of Alaska for a year and is already under ethics investigation? A woman who's good with creationism?

Bring it.

Yeah, I'm think McSame is trying to get the Hillary PUMAs away from Obama by picking a woman. If she's under investigation already, then I hope Biden et al tear her a new one.

Oh, Biden will tear her a new one (And probably say some interesting gaffes regarding women. Oh that Biden).

But we won't know about it (Unless he makes those gaffes). Look at the media coverage of this election. Watching them, then seeing the polls, it is blatant that they are shaping this election to at least be a close one. Hell, they're spreading outright blatant lies Re: Hillary v Obama just so they can keep it close.

Obama had a nice lead until the Media started with their "Is Obama being covered too much?" meme. And them, boom, Obama's lead gets winnowed down.

Dayam, you are FAST. AP hadn't had the story up for two minutes by the time you posted this.

I so don't want to hear "Obama is inexperienced" any more after this.

I might have voted the ticket if Michael Palin had been eligible, LOL.

Oh, and it's only a couple-three days after Geraldine Ferraro's birthday, speaking of birthdays and women VP candidates. Palin won't be breaking any new ground, I'm hoping.

No, it's ABOUT payback. Using the executive branch to personally harrass a former brother in law.

Even Gov. Sarah Palin, the former beauty contestant elected two years ago on a reform slate, spent July navigating her first scandal. A special prosecutor will determine whether Palin pushed to punish her sister's ex-husband, a state trooper whose established sins include moose poaching and shooting his 11-year-old stepson with a Taser.

In fairness, McCain's been Senator for at least two decades (which means he's been inside the beltway contributing to the problem for that long, not exactly the kind of "experience" we want, but still), and I don't think his houses were acquired shadily, so much as there just being way too many of them, unless you're talking about that weird pseudonym he used.

Christmas came early!

Seems to me the double smackdown of Mittens and Pawlenty just took Michigan and minnesota out of play, when they might have been hotly contested.

Of the 21 states carried by Kerry, Gore or both, it looks like only New Mexico-maybe-still has a chance of flipping. Obama, on the other hand, is competitive in CO, OH, VA, FL, MO, NV, NC, IN and even has an outside chance at Montana and the Dakotas.

I would agree with you except that:

1. Our nation is populated by idiots, and the female of the species is not exempt from the stupidity. There are a lot of women who will vote for a woman--even 2nd on the ticket--just because she's a woman. Try this on...if Hillary had won, and then picked a white guy for VP, what do you think would happen to the black vote if McCain then picked a black VP?

2. The Republicans are immune to scandal, with a press that bows and shuts the fuck up about shit that really ought to be brought our in the light where heads can be rolled. I present as exhibit A, the last 8 years, where the Bush Administration has racked up more malfeasance than any other administration in history, and nothing has happened to any of them . Resigning as a rich man with $100,000 speaking fees isn't "punishment".

I'm telling you, this is not good for Obama.

There is also the fact that most women won't vote for an anti-choice candidate regardless of gender. And Palin is likely VERY anti-choice (most creationists are anti-choice).

EDIT: She *is* anti-choice according to Wikipedia

Though still, a neocon is a neocon is a neocon.....I'm voting Obama.

Phew. For a minute there I thought McCain picked the spokesman for The Knights Who Say Ni! As we all know, The Knights Of Ni would have brought a new urgency and profundity to politics not seen in this country...well, ever. It would've made me an undecided voter.

...And of course now, if God forbid McCain DOES get elected, we can all actually tell Palin, "this country is no more! It's expired and gone to meet its maker! THIS IS AN EX-COUNTRY!"

Because Phyllis Sclafly wasn't 100% successful. Given that she's even a moderate weight-swinger in the Republican Party and that she's a member of Feminists Tools of the Patriarchy for Life Forced Birth, she's definitely a ladder-puller. I would expect her to spend a lot of time exhorting US women to be better wives and mothers; that may become her Veepish pet issue...

In among your other factoids I'd point out that she vetoed a politically popular bill because she realized that it was unconstitutional. I doubt any of the other 3 involved in race would have the (if you'll pardon the term) balls to do the same. From ye olde Wikipedia entry:

Palin's first veto was used to block legislation that would have barred the state from granting benefits to the partners of gay state employees. In effect, her veto granted State of Alaska benefits to same-sex couples. The veto occurred after Palin consulted with Alaska's attorney general on the constitutionality of the legislation.
