By way of Atrios, a projection of the path of Hurricane Gustav.

If you're in the path, PLEASE GET OUT NOW.

Odd that it should be coming ashore in time for the RNC, Think it'll make St.Paul?

Oh to be a Weathermaster...

In all seriousness I echo others in that they should stay as safe as possible if they're in Gustav's path.

If you've got relatives out of state you might want to board things up and take a trip. I'm just 'sayin...

Which way would you send it? I can't see a good one.

Unfortunately I can't see a clear path to the RNC that it could use without causing innocent harm. :-/

No, but if it hits the same region as Katrina during the convention, reminding everyone of the current administration's most spectacular screw-up, well, I'd consider it appropriate karma.

Mixed bag AFAIC because on one hand it would help change the situation for the better but on the other hand locally people would have to go through another "Super Lighting Round" of crap being dumped on them.

And I truly don't wish that on anybody.

Karma, as always, it a tricky thing...

Collective Republican party karma was what I was referring to. No, I don't wish Gustav on anyone, for any reason; I was just saying that if it did hit, there would be appropriate fallout for the GOP. And there are innocents in the path no matter which way Gustav goes now, unless it does a complete 180 - and while I've seen some strange hurricane paths (they're my son's passion), I've never seen one that made a U-turn. :(

no but ivan did a circle and came back a week later and hit central florida in the exact same place. they're screwy buggers those hurricanes! they hardly ever do what you expect.

the wacky thing is, someone, somewhere, is placing bets on this.

I'm hearing from newspaper articles gakked by friends they think it may hit between where Rita and Katrina hit, they're sending people eastward, they think it may hit west, last I knew.

Storms on that path tend to go all over the place.

Don't freak until it's done with Cuba. (Historically, when a hurricane travels over it, Cuba tends to give it a wicked right hook (http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200807_climo.html#a_topad).)

oh sh*t. people are still living in FEMA trailers there. they really don't need to be hit again when they never recovered from the last one.

BTW i loved that obama called this out on his long list of things that need addressing. "a government that sits on its hands while a city drowns." Bam!

Here's the weather underground's (http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200807.html) take on this. NOLA's going to have another Katrina sized storm hitting it, i.e., Category 4.

Secondary consideration after human life in NOLA is that this will hit most of the gulf coast oil rigs and refineries. Expect gas prices to spike again.

me, I have to run INTO the path, shutter my house, and hope it doesn't magically decided to go further west. Everytime I go to this convention, some frigging hurricane ruins my trip.

Half of my family still lives in New Orleans. They've all either evacuated already or will do so on Sunday (which seems to late to me). My dad's gone to Shreveport and my sisters are going to northern Alabama and Georgia.

Almost makes me glad I live in the land of snowstorms and tornados.
