Last night, alverant noted that Rush Limbaugh basically said the eruption of Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull (ay-yah-FYAH'-plah-yer-kuh-duhl) volcano is God's response to Obama's health care reform.

And then came this. I can't even adequately summarize this one. Just read it.

I don't know if this makes the story better or worse, but apparently Coffey has been absolutely GROVELING on his Twitter feed (http://twitter.com/nathancoffey) for forgiveness (although sounds like he's getting a little testy this morning), saying that he didn't know what the story was about, he just reacted to the headline, etc. So sounds like he had a conservative knee-jerk reaction to the word "lawsuit", and is getting his ass kicked for it. The schadenfreude is thick on the ground around my house this morning, I confess.

Thing is, given the wording of the headline he Tweeted about, it would have to mean he cut & pasted without even looking. There's no particular way to take that out of context that I can think of. And, I went back a ways to look at his other Tweets. He's a real charmer, that one.

I think the fact that his instinctive reaction to anyone filing any kind of lawsuit is "she just wants free money" speaks volumes about his default settings.

What do you want to bet Rush's defenders will use the old "he was joking" excuse. Seems like whenever a right winger says something extra-stupid or over-the-top offensive we hear the same old line "it was a joke". (Like they'd laugh if they were the target of someone else making a similar "joke".)

Remember their overall reaction to 'Did Glenn Beck Rape And Murder 2 Women?'. It can basically be summed up as 'NOT FUNNY DUDE WE WILL SUE U NAO!' So, if this is a joke, they can really dish it out, but they can't take it.

I don't think it's a joke, though. These are, as I said below, 'broken human beings.' I would like to see them find some sort of peace, become whole again, and realize what they've been doing is wrong and hurtful... but that's because my brain is currently broken from what Sonoma County, CA, did to that elderly gay couple.

So nothing changes. They'll not face any repercussions for their actions. They'l continue to spew bile and vinegar, day in and day out. They will not apologize or admit they were wrong; any apology will be an 'apolosnark' or couched in wording like 'I am sorry people took offense at--' which translates to 'It's not my fault people are thin-skinned or didn't "get it" when I said-". Ann Coulter will still promote ideological cleansing. Glenn Beck will still sob about the death of 'his' America. Bill O'Reily will still see evil in the eyes of every brown-skinned person. And. Nothing. Changes.

Rush Limbaugh doesn't get paid to make sense. Rush Limbaugh gets paid to tell people what they want to hear, and some people are such sad, pitiful examples of out-of-control persecution complexes that they want to hear how the President is responsible for that unsightly black spot beneath their right big toenail.

We call these people "morons", and while you could go on all day about the ethical standards pertaining thereof, is neither illegal to be a moron nor to exploit a moron for money. If it were, America would have collapsed long ago.

It is, however, illegal to kill someone for being a moron, for much the same reason.
