Wow. Never again will I ever look at voice acting as an unlucrative career. This guy was all over the place. He practically defined cinema with his work in film trailors.
I remember hearing him on 'Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!' a few years back when he was playing 'Not My Job.' He did a few pseudo movie promos for NPR programs which were great to listen to. I was very impressed that he offered to do the answering machine message as he did not win the segment. He sounded like a very down to Earth guy.
Personally, I would of wanted him on my machine. He was an amazing voice actor.
For someone like me, who is way more into voice actors than screen actors, this one really hurts (with the usual disclaimer re emotional involvement in the lives of famous strangers, and yadda yadda yadda).
Truly an occasion for a moment of (particularly conspicuous) silence.
That is so sad! As a voiceover guy myself (I actually have done some traing films for GM and Chrysler, and a couple radio ads for Chaser & Mobile Oil) I am truly saddened...
Note to Movie Studios: My resume is online and I have reasonable rates! Contact my agent at The I-Group!
I really will miss his baritone voice and the way he made even the most obscure dialogue sound important! My favorite was his Blockbuster video ad, where they kept him in a cabinet to be brought out to read the plot synopsis on on the boxes for customers....(he actually starred in the ad, and they called him 'Don')
I found out about this after work and I just sat there and stared at the screen. There are no words for the loss of a person who has reached a level unheard of notoriety to V.O. guys (I'm trying to be one...no work yet, rook any tips). He is gone but he will never be forgotten. Maybe he is in heaven doing trailers for all the movies we wish would exist "IN A PERFECT WORLD..."
