I just got a spam message from "TEAT RUM".

I am now a drinking man.

International Talk Like A Pirate Day is in twelve days. What should we do to celebrate? Yes, yes, obviously, talk like pirates. But what else? Should I write a song, do a live Second Life show, what?

Well, my show Radio Free Gallifrey is that night (and every Friday) on DementiaRadio.org, so of course I'll be obligated to play every freakin' pirate song I have in my collection, and Blasted Bill will just have to suck it up when I play your pirate Christmas track too. :)

Don't know how to celebrate it but I thought I'd share that my university lists TLaPD as an official event in the student calendar. :)

How about a "talk like a pirate" song

Wherein it's all talking like pirates and has nothing to do with pirates in the subject matter. ("Software Privateer" has been done. I'd like to see something completely different.)

Good Morning!
I probably won't be celebrating TLAP day, but the why isn't for bummering your journal with. I do however, have a stupid question...
Are you on thesixtyone.com? There's a Tom Smith there, but I don't think he's you...

No, that's not me. That looks... really interesting.

Sorry about the no-TLAPD. Honestly, though, every day can be piratical. Arrr.

I'll forward you an invite, so you can play if you want to.

I'm intending to dress up for it. Well, the Wednesday before for my web development class 'cause my prof is awesome....and I don't have class on Friday. I also have a feeling that somehow, some way, I will be making someone listen to "Talk Like a Pirate Day".

It's going to be very interesting walking around downtown Indianapolis in a corset and other piratey garb.... Now I just have to hope it's not going to be 90 degrees that day.

I'm ready to start translating political speeches into pirate talk.

In McCain's case, it probably wouldn't involve much work. Just throw in the occasional "Arrrrr!"

...Thinking of Sarah Palin talking like a pirate makes her almost tolerable.

A new song would be terrific.

I'm celebrating by giving away a copy of my short story "Talk Like a Pirate Day," a $1.29 value. (sample here (http://www.angelsparrow.com/sampletlapd.html), Review here (http://elisa-rolle.livejournal.com/314443.html))

And, of course, my kids are honoring their fictional ancestor there, as well as their real 15th century Dutch pirate ancestors. (my side just got horse-thieves)

I may even make cannon-balls for dessert. (Bake a chocolate cake, crumble it, mix with enough nutella to hold its shape, roll in chocolate jimmies)

Hmmmm... a song about pirate spam.

"Make your silver john longer"
"Nigerian widow needs your help to find buried treasure"
"Trade routes for the Spanish Fleet, yours for just one doubloon!"
"Congratulations! You just won a free iPatch"
"Saucy Wenches want to shiver your timbers"
"These lasses will buckle your swashes"
"Running out of rope when you try to hoist your sails?"
"Plunder your booty here"

Okay, got it mostly up. Look for "Drake Bacon" or just hit the map for "Furnation Vista" and transport to the North-East corner of that sim. That's where Shotgun Shells is, my brewpub. There's two stages, the main dance hall/brewpub and the Arena Stage that's 300m up.

You might want to take a look at Jinx by Jennifer Estep. There is one minor character in the book that would fit the day -- and that you would be perfect to play. The character is Cap'n Freebeard, although when he is mentioned, it's usually as "Cap'n Freebeard and his Saucy Wenches."

Speaking as someone who's computer is too big a piece of junk to run Second Life, I say write a song. How about one about zombie pirates. I like zombie songs and pirate songs, so that would make a cool combination.

Live Second Life Show, yes please! Contact Samantha Lowell, the Justice League's publicity nob, I've been singing her your praises. [Hawkgirl should be the public relations head in the comics too, don't you think? PR with Nth-metal mace, that works for me.]

Justice League Unlimited, a comic book themed help group, most of us are SL mentors, all of us try to help others in any way we can. Including putting on concerts and events. Most of the concerts so far have been with the Gaelic-flavored Baltimore area ensemble Keltish but we are eager to branch out.

Of course, if you go with Emi / DJ Particle we will understand and show up in droves anyway. No ego here, just lots of squee!

E-mail me when you're ready

You need
1) a mike
2) SHOUTcaster program
3) Media rights at the SL venue

:)

Let me know what OS you use and I can point you in the right direction.

I will be dressing up as a pirate at school, and talking like a pirate all day. The slender educational thread by which I will hang this is to get my students to write in jargon. I'm also going to teach them how to do "sonar" measurements by creating an "ocean" floor on the bottom of a box, with slanted bottoms, and sponge reefs and so on, and have them measure "soundings" through pegboard using sticks, and map.

Here's a challenge...

Can you write a piratey song that involves the chorus to pass around bottles of rum, but doing so makes the singer more and more drunk during the song itself.
Leading to an occasional (punny) mixup (I'm not half as think as you drunk I am) to outright putting words completely wrong but it still /sounds/ right.
Of course, the song ends when the rum is gone and the singer is falling down drunk.

;D

Eat some barbecue. According to Legends Of Texas Barbecue by Robb Walsh, the word "buccaneer" is derived from a French word for "barbecuer." And also according to Walsh, it's something of a tradition in Texas that the best barbecue comes from the joint that has the most problems with the local health department.
