First is a clip from the end of Katie Couric's "interview" with Sarah Palin:

If you want to, you can see the entire interview here.

Second... McCain's campaign is trying to cancel the Vice Presidential debate.

And... excerpts from David Letterman's show, to be aired later tonight:

The set isn't complete without a video of Obama rejecting McCain's request to cancel the debate. He replied that people need to hear what the people who may be dealing with the crisis 40 days from now have to say about it, and a president needs to be able to do more than one thing at a time.

I totally agree. Technically the President is 7 full time jobs done all at the same time. Of course, no one actually does that. But if you can not do at least two of them at once then you really should be be President. If the debate was scheduled at the exact same time as a critical senate vote that Obama and McCain should be there for, then I could see rescheduling the debate (I acknowledge some things can not be done in parallel, not if they are to be done correctly). And if the VP candidates are able to do the President job properly, why can they not take over for some things? I guess they are not actually able to do the job they are next in line for.

The funny part...or maybe not, depending on your viewpoint...is that Letterman's playing with this business may change more minds than all the intellectual arguments Obama has put forth.

I regularly visit Democratic Underground. Over there, most of the posters argue with logic and reason against the Republicans. They don't understand that logic and reason are the least effective motivators. McCain flaking out, not only on the debates that people won't watch, but on a LETTERMAN interview, is going to devastate his support. He's going to look like the coward his biography insists that he is not.

I particularly liked that one since Dave made very clear that he respected McCain as a person and his military service and sacrifice while still pointing out that these are not the actions suitable to a president. I think you're right that his comments may move people to think more than a more argumentive approach every would. (I do maintain that he was still using logic and reason, but in a far more subtle way than some of us screaming lunatics!)

How did McCain think he could pull out of doing Letterman, claiming to be rushing back to DC and instead do an interview with Katie Couric from the SAME network, that it wouldn't get back to Dave Letterman??? That shows a serious lapse of judgment. Having those live shots of him being prepped was classic, did McCain not think that they could get a network feed to Letterman's theater? What did he think that they were using film stock still or something?

I have to admit I'm not paying a lot of attention to the American meltdown. We have our own election campaign running right now, and I doing volunteer work for the local Green Candidate (http://www.votemarando.ca/). I'd suggest that rather than worrying about Obama and McCain you should check out your own
