I'm honestly not sure who they make look worse here, Palin or Couric.

If you have trouble playing the video, a substantial transcript is here.

I'd swear that long rambling answer about a minute before the end was taken from the real interview verbatim! Yeesh!

Omigod. I thought it was, but then thought, "Oh, no, it couldn't have been that bad," and yes, in fact, irony is dead, long live irony.

Yeah... but I watched the real interview on YouTube, and the SNL version on TV, and I have to say that Tina Fey made that rambling seem more coherent, somehow.

I wonder if there would be some way to secretly switch Palin and Fey. Like in the movie Dave, except that it'd be sane people doing the switching, not a chief of staff. A President Fey would be a damn sight better than a President Palin.

I would love to be a fly on the wall listening to McCain's people trying to figure out a new strategy for wriggling out of the VP debate....

I hope they do hold the VP debates, it should be a laugh-a-minute riot. Only question I have is: will she have a Bush Bulge in the back? And how big will it be?

Bush Bulge? I'm picturing something like those slugs from "The Puppet Masters" but I know that can't be right. . .

In October 2004 Bush was in a debate with Kerry when the cameras caught an obvious bulge under his jacket. Add that to his statement of "Now let me finish!" when nobody on stage was doing anything to interrupt him, and everybody who wasn't a rabid conservative knew it was a radio receiver At first the white house said there was no bulge, but as videos and images multiplied on the net, Rove had his minion state "It was a badly made suit," which anyone with vision could readily see wasn't true. Then the white house stated it was an armored vest. Despite conservative bloggers desperate efforts, nobody could find a single armored vest that produced anything close to this kind of bulge. At this point it became a farce, with the white house playing clueless fool. I hope the next president unclassifies the file on this so we can learn the identity of the person who was feeding Bush the answers.

Now the question is, what are they going to do with Palin? Embed a GPS device in her hair?

Oh, I'm sorry

I can't bear to watch Palin, it's too painful to see a woman in public go down in flames that badly, even if I disagree with everything she stands for. I looked at the transcript. I think the comedy writers made the "Russian" answer more coherent than Palin's real words.

After her train wreck with Katie, I almost don't see any point spoofing those interviews, except to add the "Live from NY it's Saturday Night", the real ones had entertainment value all on their own.

It makes Palin look almost as bad as reality does.

Actually, I thought this was much smoother and more coherent than Palin... the obvious funny bits aside, the delivery was heaps better! =)

The good news/bad news about Palin for SNL is that they really can't write much better comedy material for her than she writes for herself, much of the time.

I'm hearing rumblings from the right about removing her from the ticket. I don't know whether that would be a good thing or not, for the Dems, at this point. (Probably would be; see Eagleton, Tom. We can only hope.)

Either way, this seems like found money and the easiest role ever for Ms. Fey.

Playing the devil's advocate for a moment, would another Republican woman have been a better vice-presidential candidate? Could McCain be ahead in the polls now if he'd picked, for one example, Condoleezza Rice?

Probably Senator Hutchinson from Texas or either of the two female Senators from Maine would have brought the election down to the wire.

It has to be Katie. I don't see how you can make Palin look worse than she does all by herself.

I'm voting for Tina Fey if only because she memorized that whole thing and did it without screaming or losing her mind.

I think this makes Couric look worse because Palin isn't portrayed much worse than she already is so Couric loses by default.

Jeeeeeeeebus Cripes...why can I picture, with perfect clarity, Palin using those exact words Thursday night?
