The joke has been made repeatedly that John McCain's campaign slogan should be, "Get Offa My Lawn". And, over the past three days, I've nearly posted about fifteen things about his ridiculous effort to become President based on his being the oldest guy who still wants the job.

But life is short, and the blogs are already doing all the work.

Without question, I'll still post political stuff in the very near future -- possibly later today, 'cause stuff happens, y'know? But I've got music to write. People to see. Things to do. My first FuMP song in five months goes live tomorrow, and I'm finishing up a vocal track for [livejournal.com profile] cadhla, and then it's full bore into Herbert West, with lots of other stuff to follow.

There simply isn't time to even bother with all of McCain's bullshit.

So, what are you doing this weekend instead of dwelling on politics?

ETA: I'm very glad [livejournal.com profile] markbernstein reminded me that our dear friend and occasional Smithtone Tom Underwood is in a play this and next weekend here in Ann Arbor. It's worth clicking just to see the look on his face....

Today, fasting. Tomorrow, I'm starting to put my health back together. And the whole time, it's still 1L year. Torts, Contracts, Civil Procedure, Lawyering.

Oh yeah. Fun for the whole family. *smirk*

It's Harvest Homecoming time, the huge fall festival that shuts down my town's downtown for the next five days...and that means food, food, food! Already had my polish sausage and chocolate buckeyes...ribbon potatoes, mushrooms, and chocolate dipped cheesecake are all in my future...good thing there's a LOT of walking to help burn that off, LOL.

Outside of that...roommate's parents are in town Fri and Sat, then Sun it's a show at a local club with a fave band...

...so yeah, politics is the least thing on my mind at the moment.

Though this made me laugh out loud...still snickering 12 hours later...

Play on Second life a bit, grill some steak outside before it gets too cold, then get some writing underway (if I can get my laptop back from the wife). I've been neglecting the story and my characters are becoming put out with me.

Tom, you and I are living parallel lives with parallel interests. I have posted about politics only very rarely; not that politics don't matter, but that I have so many other things to fret about. But you and I have both hit the spot where we have had enough McCain and Palin to last a lifetime, and, since I have just joined a new band, I will put some time in this weekend working on the stuff I didn't cover at last night's rehearsal (notably the stuff sung by female vocalist Lori, who was unable to attend last night). But also, Saturday afternoon Louie and I are heading up to North Branch, Minnesota. Do you remember that Louie breeds and raises pet mice? ("Fancy mice," with all kinds of hair colors that do not occur in the wild, larger and friendlier than the wild kind.) We need to go to a "livestock feed and grain" store up there to get some wheat and oats for her mousies, and although Louie can certainly drive up and back without my help, I usually go with her because it's a nice drive. Sunday I will probably mow my front and back lawns for the last time this season. Life is good, and the domestic stuff is as much fun as ever.

Nate

Very glad for that, m'friend. Hugs to you both. And, no, I didn't know Louie bred mice. Has she ever spoken with [livejournal.com profile] robin_june, who used to breed rats? (Yes, yes, I know, very different, but one would presume some common coin.)

I'm working on a new Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting while getting geared up for National Novel Writing Month.

So, Tom, have you ever considered participating in NaNoWriMo? You're already the world's fastest filker ... how about writing a 50,000 word novella in 30 days? :)

Nope. Now and then I work on a short story or something, but I'm much more comfortable with music and lyrics. Maybe someday, and if so not with the NaNoWriMo format.

The last weekend of Faire for the year on Saturday morning with [livejournal.com profile] murphymom; hopefully dinner with friends on Saturday evening; and then Decompression on Sunday (the majority of my Reno-based campmates are coming to town for this - yay!). I'll be in serious spoon debt by the end of it all, but it's gonna be worth it.

I'll be working on the wolf print cover for my old comforter. This is an odd project; I'm turning a slightly ratty comforter into a duvet by making a pillowcase-like cover for it. I found some lovely wolf print fabric on eBay that is intended for quilting, but I've never found a quilt that will keep me warm enough, so this is my compromise.

Oh, by the way, hello! I'm Anakin the Fangirl from the Boston area, and I'm a filker, LARPer, and costumer.

My birthday's Friday. My friends and family are having an all-day party for me Saturday...roller skating, a movie ("How to Lose Friends and Alienate People"), dinner at a nice restaurant with VERY nice drinks, then RockBand and more drinks at our place. Cake from the place that did our wedding cake. Very cool. I feel loved. :)

This Saturday: Day-tripping to a campsite near Corsicana for an Amtgard event. I have no interest in the event itself, and so help me ever since I've been to an actual filk circle I no longer want anything to do with Amtgard bardics, but one of my Amt-friends is trying to offload a bunch of gaming books and said that he'd bring them to this event. That's seriously the reason I'm paying twenty bucks to go someplace I'd otherwise avoid. =)

This Sunday: Texas State Fair. I am so in love with my workplace-furnished DART pass that will get me down there, onto the shuttle, and in the gate at a $2 discount.

Oh, and tonight the whole house is heading up to Plano to visit a couple of our friends. They recently had a baby and mommy's having a rough time of it (suspected PPD), so we're dropping off five casseroles and seeing if there's anything else we can be helpful with.

My baby sister's coming for a visit, from out-of-state. I haven't seen her in years, and now she's not only 18 but a pre-med in her first year of college. Still has a beautiful soprano voice. Aside from general catching-up, she wants me to teach her how to knit and how to bake our late grandmother's brownies.

At some point before she gets here I need to finish up another FN Crazy script, and maybe start drafting a "cocktails around the clock" article.

This weekend is the local gaming group's big gaming convention. I'm only going to that on Saturday. On Sunday, I'm taking some friends up to look the fall colors since they've just moved up here after four years in the south. And then we will stop at the world's best independent pizza parlor. :)

Hopefully, weather permitting, my wife, daughter, and I will go to a local state park this weekend and do some hiking and leaf-peeping.

Oh yeah, my wife also wants to have a small feast in honor of the Canadian Thanksgiving, because her grandfather had been Canadian before moving to the USA.

(Probably) standing over the kids to get them to do homework on Friday night and Saturday, and if they actually finish, we intend to go picking apples on Sunday. If we're REALLY diligent, we'll buy the kids new mattresses (which they need) on Saturday and emplace them.

Exciting, no?

I'll be hanging out with some old friends, one of whom wants me to take him to a local gun show to buy a bunch of surplus ammo cans - they make great storage containers and come in a variety of sizes ranging from quite small to "Holy crap, what the hell did they store in that?".

Other than that I'm working on cleaning up the house and readying it for replacing every inch of carpet with some kind of sorta-wood replacement. I also need to figure out whether it will more of a pain to run speaker cable and Cat5e under the house or through the attic. Either way it will be a pain in the butt, but I need to do it.

Other than that I'm looking forward to OVFF.

Gleefully nothing, after the last few weekends being stuffed with friends and family. I love socializing, but I am looking forward to a nice quiet weekend. The teenager is even at her dad's, so there's -really- nothing pressing going on.

Friends' wedding on Saturday, watch football with a good friend on Sunday, and in between everything else read, write, eat, sleep and breathe this stupid (in the love/hate sense of "what exactly was I thinking when I decided to do this for real?!") alternate history idea I'm working on...

May you have a wonderful October and a delightful OVFF. Looks like we won't be there due to someone else's schedule conflict landing on that Sunday, but then at the moment I'm begrudging any time not spent working on my own stuff anyway. :/
